Looking for DC connector name
« on: August 08, 2020, 02:02:57 pm »
Is there a standard name for this type of DC plug/socket connection (see the picture below)?

"bi-pin" is more general than for this particular DC connector, but I think it fits.

Tangential, but I have one of those switchable PSUs and its output at 3V is 3.7V and something within those connectors / adapters has crapton of resistance (>0.1Ω IIRC) on the ground side.

mathsquid, magic, thanks!
magic, mine is .3-.4 volts higher on each voltage, but looks consistent among the 3 units that I bought, so I think it's intentional.

There are different versions with different specs and different internals.

Mine is a version with 3~12V output voltage, 2.5A rated output current plus an additional 1A USB socket. The problem with it is that the secondary regulator is a TL431 (≥2.5V) in series with an optocoupler (1.2V) so it simply can't regulate less than about 3.7V :palm:
Its output voltages also are slightly higher than nominal, presumably to compensate cable loss at high currents ::)

Oh, and there is another problem: no OCP. The secondary rectifier can overheat and desolder itself when pulling >3A of current at 3V. The whole thing is kinda crap, but okayish if you are careful with it and understand the limitations.

I thought it was bi-plug too, but I see that is apparently too general of a description...
