Louis Rossman's store affected by fire.
« on: October 03, 2018, 06:19:49 pm »
Short explanation, the building on fire (still), is next door to the building housing the Rossman Group store.
Video being sent by Louis to customers

14 people with minor injuries, mostly firefighters.

Quote
Flames broke out shortly after 1:45 a.m. at a five-story building on First Avenue between 11th and 12th streets.
The building houses a storefront on the bottom and apartments above.

Quote
FDNY investigators traced the fire’s origin to a first-floor apartment. The back of the building suffered a collapse that firefighters could not get past and the area was allowed to burn instead, while the remainder of the structure was protected

The video in the CBS video "FDNY Update On East Village Fire" says residents will be allowed to return to buildings except those two adjacent to the building on fire.

Meeting tonight 9PM for local businesses on the status.

That is rotten news.

I appear that there are no fatalities, but a considerable number of injuries. Sad to see this.
FDNY is a very brave group to run into these dangerous situations - fire + old buildings + very dense = a stunning challenge.

Hope Louis comes out ok.

From the NY video showing the back of the buildings, I'd say his store is probably intact, so far as contents go. But the infrastructure could be damaged...hard to do any work if there's no electricity. Phones and internet could be affected as well.

Water and smoke damage could have destroyed anything inside.

We'll find out in the next couple days, I'm sure.

The helicopter video I saw showed unmasked firefighters congregating in the space BETWEEN Louis's back room (which projects from the building rear at ground level) and the kitchen area that was burning next door. If the smoke was THAT bad, they wouldn't be standing there.

Not with Louis - he specializes in water damage repair! Oh wait, all his own tools are probably FUBAR too.  :palm:

So I wasn't entirely right. Sounds like his basement was flooded.

$10k worth of quicks destroyed by water from putting out the fire. Insurance won't cover shit since it was another store on fire, and water below ground level.
