Copy or licenced design? That's the question.

To be sincere I was expecting for it to fail but it surprised me. Although I still would not recommend to anyone.

Copy? License? 🤣 LTT isn’t a manufacturer. The similarity with the one other tool is practically guaranteed to be because they’re made by the same tool OEM. In this case, clearly with some customization.

And why not recommend it? It’s clearly been optimized for PC servicing, with the very, very low back drag. (I have the PB Swiss, and it’s useless for small machine screws in computers because the back drag is too strong. Just moves the screw back and forth.)

There's no need for speculation.

It says right on the LTT website
Quote
The ratchet is based on megapro's long-standing & reliable design, but has been significantly modified to suit our needs
And they have said that they worked with megapro for the ratchet mechanism .

LTT isn’t a manufacturer.

I disagree, they are a manufacturer.
Only the ratchet was loosely based on megapro's design, they had the rest of it manufactured themselves.
They had steel tooling made and shipped to china for injection molding, went over to the factory to setup the lines. etc.
There's a bunch of videos about it.

The details are in the video. The Taiwanese ratchet manufacturer for Megapro ignored LTT after being acquired. They has to start fresh with a Chinese manufacturer. The factory footage of plastic injection moulding and final assembly is in British Columbia, as well as the EDM work for the plastic injection moulds.

That raw 304 stainless ended up looking better than the plated shaft IMO.

$200k for the molds, jesus.
I'm impressed.

I found a video clip with detail about the ratchet suppliers. They sent a Taiwanese ratchet sample and technical drawings with new revisions to the new Chinese manufacturer. But somehow the prototypes they got back weren't quite right, with resolved issues reappearing. After some back and forth, it turns out that there was miscommunication and the Chinese manufacturer never received the drawings! They took the final Taiwanese sample ratchet and cloned it. In eight days!

Hilarious I guess, if it wasn't your own time and money wasted.

I have the IRWIN and never had any issues with it. I still don't see the value add of the LTT Screwdriver even after seeing the ProjectFarm review.

Which is what ProjectFarm said.. depends on what features you care or don't care about.
I prefer small lightweight, thin shaft driver, so not really for me.
