Magnetizing my ESD-safe screwdrivers?

(1/2) > >>

NicholsMatt:
Hi all,
I got a nice set of the Wera ESD-safe screwdrivers a little while back and while working with them a common gripe of mine is that they are not magnetized.

Would there be any big reason not to magnetize these specific screwdrivers? I'm not doing anything particularly delicate and I have other magnetized screwdrivers in my lab but it would be nice if these were also magnetized. Just wanted to check with the hivemind to see if there were any reasons I was overlooking.

Thanks!

Gyro:
You can always demagnetise them again.

NicholsMatt:
Fair enough. Thanks!

SeanB:
The cheap magnetising and demagnetising unit you buy will work with those.

jpanhalt:
I just stick a small, cylindrical rare earth magnet to the screwdrive about 1 to 3 cm above the tip.  Works great for holding tiny screws, and once removed, there may be some residual magnetism, which is easily removed if needed.
