Major DNS server is getting DDoS'd
« on: October 21, 2016, 05:58:26 pm »
http://gizmodo.com/this-is-probably-why-half-the-internet-shut-down-today-1788062835/amp

I haven't had any problems so far, so I want to compile a list of outage areas and issue points just to see who is having problems.
Every field is optional, but I would appreciate it being filled out.

Are you losing access to certain websites (see list in link)?

Location (state or territory is fine)

Current DNS server (address would be fine, but whatever you can give)

For me:

No

Albany, NY

4.2.2.2 and 8.8.8.8 (Google DNS)
I forget who I am sometimes, but then I remember that it's probably not worth remembering.

Yes

Raleigh, NC

8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Fortunately, the disruptions are minor. My pfsense box is caching responses as it happens, so once a query is successful I am good for a while on that site.
The only lingering trouble I have had is that it takes a while to get into a few bluejeans video conferences due to their load balancing setup, so working from home has sucked a bit today.

I had trouble getting this site earlier today. I'm in the UK using Virgin Media's nameservers...

Ongoing problems today getting to sites. Usually can connect after several delays and retries.

Oregon, US

Was using DYN dns. It wasn't much better after switching to Google's DNS servers.

Interesting. Can't wait to see the skid who caused this.
