Just posted this in the shout box but Y axis jamming is warned about in the assembly instructions for the Y axis motor http://wiki.makerbot.com/thingomatic-doc:body-assembly (http://wiki.makerbot.com/thingomatic-doc:body-assembly) The motor shaft appears to be too short and the pulley needs to be right on the end. Piss poor design, you can specify shaft length when ordering your motor, no excuse really.

Not since the last ustream vid. but he may be working on it now. Seems to have gotten all the drives etc working in a fashion , now comes the hard bit and getting it all lined up and square, calibrated and the software setup (feedrates etc) but he should be able to download a model and get reasonable results real soon ;D

You know what we say at the EEVblog: Don't turn it on, take it apart!!!

And then assemble it again, this time with super glue.

Yep, that's exactly what it was.
Yet another oversight in the build guide.
We lost count of the number of contradictory photos and assembly info.
You'd think that after 6000+ units, the instructions wouldn't be too far from perfect.

You know what they say about engineers and documentation...........

At least it is not all software, with the manual being a 500 page fluff piece having absolutely no relation to the version you are using.

I think there is a tendency with "open" systems to assume that just because someone else can re-write and document the system, then they should. Removing any obligation from the original designers. Hopefully the new pre-built MakerBots will come with better user guides (yeah right) and they will spend part of that $10M on a professional technical writer.

All too often, using the term "open" seems to be an excuse for something being amateurish and unprofessional.
