He might well be by now, the gas pressure is quite likely to rupture his intestines. I have heard of people being killed in that manner due to someone thinking it was funny to direct an air jet towards someones backside.

Jeez, what a blatant disregard for someone's health and safety. Just watching this makes my blood boil and makes me want to physically do something to those 'colleagues'.

Airbags don't shoot jets of air out the front, they just inflate (very) quickly. The senseation wouldn't be all that different from those amusement park rides that shoot you upwards, although probably a lot faster.

For him, going down was probably far worse than going up.

I'm absolutely certain that it would be substantially different than an amusement park ride. Just think for a moment about the forces on that poor guy's body in general, and his spine in specific. He was almost certainly injured, the severity is the only thing in question.

More like being shot out of an ejection seat. Not something you will do more than twice, as they will medically board you after the second time. Then permanent flying of a mahogany bomber.

BTW after the first time you will be 10cm shorter for a week or two due to spinal compression.

There's a few "airbag in microwave" videos on youtube too. Tears the microwave to pieces when it goes off.

It happens quickly after the microwave is started and doesn't give any time to get away.

It goes off pretty quick in the microwave and doesn't give you time to get away.

Especially the "Is It A Good Idea To Microwave This?" saga

Yes, that is why it is a Supplemental Safety Restraint. It works only if you have a seatbelt on.

Car manufacturers resisted installing airbags for years because of the potential they have for making things worse rather than better.  An airbag deployment broke my wifes arm in an otherwise not-particularly-violent crash. :-/

And as for the original video...it is somewhat reassuring that the phenomenon of the "redneck" is not entirely confined to the American south... though, I like to think our rednecks have a bit more sense than that...I like to think....

I have a pretty simple rule.  If some event is supposed to be funny just because the victim miraculously escaped serious injury, then it's NOT funny.

Alas, my generalization to sitcoms/kid shows/etc that something that wouldn't be funny "in real life" shouldn't be funny on TV either, seems to be an unpopular attitude.  "hah hah, he answered the question wrong so they dumped a bucket of slime on him!  That's soooo funny!"  (WTF?)
