Mini PC - who's using those from Ryzen
« on: August 08, 2023, 01:41:36 am »
anyone using any of the brands below or other brands? Are they reliable for long term use? My Phenom PC lasted me 12years & this "Will" be my last PC build so I'm kinda doing some reliability sourcing stuff. thanks guys

thinking about these two - AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX or Ryzen 7 6800HS, just some daily task, a few CAD (AD), light gaming & HTPC

i think these two are leading it

Haven't used that brand but I did get a $100 refurb Elitedesk with a 2400G a while back, great HTPC that can even run some games.

I looked at those a while back. If the lower end will do the job for you, there's no reason not to buy. As you move away from the low end they start to get a little pricey (in my opinion). I ended up buying an Elitedesk Mini also, but I went with an older Intel model. It's been a great little computer so far.

Maybe a little late for you, but also look at Dell Optiplex micro form factor. They are not quite as small as the Intel NUC or that Ryzen you referred to, but close. I bought a 3050 recently. Installed a 5 port sata card into the NVMe slot and a 2.5GbE card into the wifi slot (m.2 "a+e" key), and turned it into a low power consumption file server (about 10 W at idle, not including disks).

I'm still in the Market for one.

thanks for the input, i'll check that one out too.
Still weighing my options, that's a nice idle output on that one. I also am checking for power consumptions since I'll be setting up a Solar System, no pun intended, to cut down on electrical bills.
