Title: Missing Forum Icons using uBlock Origin
Post by: rdl on January 20, 2020, 10:08:57 pm
Many icons/images here on the forum are suddenly missing. uBlock Origin's count is now hitting up in the 40s on the forum index page, normally only Youtube and Amazon go that high. The uBlock logger is showing that it's not happy with something called "pagespeed.ce."

This just started a couple of hours ago. I'm a bit curious as to what's up.

It looks like the problem is caused by a "static filter" in one of the filter lists used by uBlock Origin called "Easy Privacy" ( https://forums.lanik.us/ ). uBlock has not updated since Saturday, but this "Easy Privacy" list was updated yesterday. And it's probably an error of some kind. Images containing the string pagespeed.ce. are blocked while others such as pagespeed.jc. or pagespeed.jm. are not. I disabled that list and now the forum appears as normal.

Two stupid things collided to cause that: the naming of the files, and the filter that doesn't know how to distinguish the parts of a URL.

I have a similar problem with Firefox + ABP since a couple of days (seemingly after upgrading to the latest version of FF).

I have a similar problem with Firefox + ABP since a couple of days (seemingly after upgrading to the latest version of FF).

Same here. FF + ABP too.

But doesn't seem to be linked to the FF update; the issue appeared suddenly from one minute to the next. The behavior doesn't seem consistent from one page to another either; some forum pages don't have this issue at all, whereas some others do (like, in some sections, the "new" flag doesn't even appear anymore, but it does in others...) Even the EEVBlog background sometimes appear, sometimes it's just white.

That may be caused by some blocking rules. If so, forum images may just have been moved recently and now fall into one of our filters. The weird part is that it's not consistent over the whole forum.

Edit: for ABP users, that seems to be caused by an update of one of the lists that ABP uses (although not 100% sure, it seems to be the "EasyPrivacy" list.) Those lists are updated automatically by default, so that would explain the sudden change as the list was updated a couple days ago (not linked to any update of FF itself.) I went to ABP options, and forced a new update of all lists. The problem seems to be fixed after that.

The problem is gone over here too. The images (including the banners at the top came back).
