It's freaking hilarious. I like the scientist electrical dude with the glassware full of organic chemicals and stuff. Very electrical!

Hah nice one. Still a better idea than Solar Roadways.

Yes its silly, yes you don't get much power from it. But all you need to tap into this power is a switching regulator that turns the 48V standby power from the phone line into low voltage to charge a battery.

As someone that works in telecom this is hilarious.  :-DD

If you want some bursts of extra power you can always call the line and let it ring too.   Each ring is around 170 volts with enough amps to power an old style phone bell. :P

Or a telco powered telco!  Just install a line from the competition and power the whole phone switch with their power.  >:D

That is also similar to how PoE works - and with the same voltage too.

Actually it is crazy to think how far solar and batteries have come in 20 years.  I'm not even sure if you could even buy a solar panel in the 2000's.  They existed, but they were a super niche thing not really available to consumers.

so is anyone else thinking about getting a phone line again so these gadgets can be used?

will this have a resurgence when there is ultra high efficiency LED lights? just power your house from the telco and go with firewood?

are we aboard the event horizon or something? no, its just powered by AT&T
