alternatives to snubber circuit
« on: February 27, 2017, 01:25:04 pm »
My mosfet open circuit voltage- 400 volts.
Switching frequency-70000
I am not using Snubber CIRCUIT  to eliminate ringing .Are there any other options to eliminate ringing. Now i am using an active clamp circuit(tvs diode between Gate and Drain).I don't want to waste power at snubber circuit.Am i correct with TVS Diode? Please suggest me how to deal with this ringing.

You didn't even tell what sort of the circuit it is. My guess would be probably flyback SMPS but who knows. It might be switching purely resistive heater as well, considering your detailed description.

More information required.

Google "Lossless snubber networks". In flyback appications it is a capacitor, an inductor and two diodes. This captures the energy of the spike and returns it to a capacitor on the supply.
