Where the screwdrivers come from

Last friday I made my first rideout with the motorcycle this year. It is quite obvious to tour in the Black Forrest when you live in the south-west of Germany.

That tour brought me to the village of Schonach. It’s the place of Wiha's headquarters and production plant for most of their tools. I have no doubt that the screwdrivers that Dave and many of us use were made there.

You really need to tour that plant and take pictures.

Show them Dave's videos highlighting the quality of their products. Then ask for the tour.

My favorite screwdriver in my Lab is a Wiha #2 phillips. I don't let anyone else borrow it. It's mine... all mine... my precious.

In all seriousness I really do like Wiha tools.

I had a Wiha screwdriver I bought about 18 years ago, it was great, it would remove screws that no other screwdriver could get out.  Unfortunately I was careless with it got the high quality tempered bits mixed up with the cheap bits that crumble so it's a good screwdriver with half bad bits now.

All of my non-power tools are Wiha made. I have a friend working there.

My highlights are the system 4 and system 6 tools. You don't know how valuable it actually is to adjust the length of your screw driver until you tried it. Unlike bit's they don't add to much girth so you still get in tight spaces. Very ergonomic is, what she said. 

I also like the self adjusting plumber wrench.

I'd be interested in any feedback from anyone who works at the main Wiha factory.

In addition, there are other who complains of similar issues at Amazon reviews for the Wiha precision driver set.  For the money I paid, this should not happen.   It maybe the old Wiha alloy was better, not the one's they make now.  Also, some complain the shaft and driver are in some drivers, not properly aligned.  These issues appear whether its the scewdriver or hex driver sets.

You might want to look for Wera bits with laser tip or diamond coating.
