Moving To Australia - TRA Skills Assessment Advice
(1/1)
dermotkirk7:
Hi

Little off topic but I wasn’t sure which subject to post this question under

Basically I am moving to Australia specifically to the Victoria area, I have a employer willing to sponsor me which I have done projects for in the past and is aware of my skills and ability’s but I just want to clear up some things before we go ahead and file the application

I have a strong electronics background especially in the automotive field but I do not have qualifications as in the UK people don’t care much for that kind of thing if you can do the job

I am wondering if anyone has any experience with the TRA skills assessment in the electrical/electronic fields and how difficult it is to pass and get a positive result to proceed with the visa application

I am currently studying as much as I can to better my knowledge as well, I have 5 years paid work experience in a automotive electrician role and can provide proof of that and past work, projects and documentation, I have been in the electronic field for over 9 years but as a hobbyist for 4 of those years

Any help is very much appreciated

Thanks

So you're immediately ineligible for the MSA (TRA) pathway:

--- Quote from: MSA Applicant Guide ---The following items will not be accepted as a substitute for a qualification:

* occupational licences
* trade tests not supported by comparable and verifiable formal training
* short course certificates such as single day or single subject training
* work experience.
--- End quote ---

If you can't even follow the basics, you're going to have real trouble navigating the system. Hire a migration agent.

Also Auto Elec's in Australia is a Trade based Qualification. Used to be an apprenticeship scheme with some crossover from automotive and is now a dedicated Tafe course with an on the job requirement. So even with 'experience' the best you might get here will be relief from some subjects due to prior learning if you have done any recognisable study in the UK.

While you might get a work visa for a period of time (Temporary Work Visa) without 'skills' (Skilled Migration) it is unlikely you will get a Permanent one even with a sponsor.

Time to get some serious non Forum advice IMO too.  :)

Which is why I was looking at the 186 visa

Again a forum is not where you want to be getting advice from.

Given your lack of professional qualifications under the Australian rules you will need to work for a sponsoring employer for a period of 3-4 years PRIOR (which is not a 186 Visa) to applying under that category and that assumes that no changes take place in the meantime. I still have doubts you will qualify for a 186 on 'skilled' grounds but that is not my call to make.

What you can find is you go all in and sell all you own and move to find yourself out of work for various unforeseen reasons in 1,2 or 3 years and without a path forward to applying for permanent citizenship in Oz. You need to cover your own ass and not rely on someone else to do the right thing to cover it for you.

The only reason I put in my $0.02 cents here is I have employed a few people who were in the country as Tourists/working visas so I have in passing run into the rules and regs in the past.

Likely path without being a 'Skilled' migrant https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/employer-nomination-scheme-186/temporary-residence-transition-stream#Overview
