Title: MOVs caught on fire (from DP)

You can't really test a MOV based protector unless you destroy it, since it works like a fuse, once fully used its dead.

Of course, I should have chosen my words better... Anyway, I have more than 10 cheap power strips and I was thinking of sacrifice a couple to see if they indeed catch on fire when the voltage remains high for a prolonged period of time. Of course I don't have a variac on hand right now so I couldn't really give it a go. But it does look pretty scary when these MOVs caught on fire! I guess I would think twice before I buy a new power strip.
