My Monthly Trip to the Electronic Surplus Warehouse

Another good trip to the Electronic Surplus Warehouse. Project boxes, many rolls of Kapton tape, 3M Teflon PTFE Glass tape and yet another PSU and a tested and working 2kVDC 500uF oil capacitor!

The PSU is a Kepco ATE 150-1.5M 0-150VDC 1.5A power supply with CV/CC crossover and 10-turn adjustments pots and analog meters. It also has the remote control card installed!  Tested the PSU over the entire range and it's spot on! Good specs too...

I could not pass up the 2kVDC 500uF capacitor for 20 dollars! Time to get out the chicken stick!

I was at the scrapyard Friday, and there was a nice Hitachi Mosfet amplifier, in somewhat used condition. Was looking to get it, but as it is about 20kg, and they charge per kilo i might see if it is still there next visit and negotiate a lower price. Then I will probably return most of it as scrap metal. Probably only keep the vertical mosfets.

Nice caps, but I would be careful of possible PCB content, especially if you are doing "abusive" stuff to them that might cause a rupture/leakage.  Shorting stick and rubber lineman's gloves definitely in order around that thing.  The label said they had more of these?  Quartershrinker or Gauss gun maybe?

The Mosfets would be worth it alone!

Nice caps, but I would be careful of possible PCB content, especially if you are doing "abusive" stuff to them that might cause a rupture/leakage.  Shorting stick and rubber lineman's gloves definitely in order around that thing.  The label said they had more of these?  Quartershrinker or Gauss gun maybe?

PCB was a concern, but the MFG date suggests a 50/50 that it might contain PCB's, regardless, PCB's are harmless unless it leaks or explodes. It does not have any leaks that I can see nor do I plan on pushing it to its rupture point. A quartershrinker would be cool! 

BTW, the last one. A local university bought like 5 or 6 of them. This was the last one.

Judging by the lightweight terminals, that cap isn't designed for impulse discharge use. If you try to use it as a quartershrinker, the internal leads may either vaporize or tear loose.

PCBs went away in the 60s or 70s... if it's around that date, and doesn't say "No PCBs", it's probably got PCBs.

Vertical mosfets, made by anyone, but Hitachi in particular, aren't worth anything.

Lateral mosfets, made by anyone, but Hitachi in particular, are a different story.
