I laughed through the whole video.  The sad thing is that someone without 2 numbers of an IQ to rub together to get a spark of intelligence will see this video and offer to fix a friend's computer using the techniques outlined within.  Of course, both parties will be amazed that the repair didn't work and the factory smoke came out. :-DD :-DD :-DD

In reality, for many simple repairs where you are just re-capping a board that isn't too dense with components - wouldn't the "technique" of just yanking the electrolytic caps off with pliers work fine? They are a pain in the ass to remove intact, causing lots of extra board heating as you try to reflow both leads at the same time while pulling the cap. It seems that there would be far less stress on the board by physically yanking the cap off and then quickly desoldering each lead individually. I mean - the caps are bad and being replaced anyways.

I get it that he was going for comedic effect.

If you don't mind replacing the board too. You'll lift the pads by using such "technique".

I use that to remove components, though the board will typically not survive at all.

Hi group,

For IC removal, the gas powered blow torch can damage to board. I like to use a chain saw to carefully cut through the leads.  ;D Since I am concerned about carbon monoxide poisoning I have switch to a battery powered saw:

I also find that a 'weed-wacker' is a very effective way of de-capping a board. The FS-90R is great if you have a lot capacitors to change:

Nothing, unless your board is already clean and your making little tin snowmen.
