NanoVNA shielded eBay sellers?
« on: September 29, 2019, 03:59:54 am »
I have a credit burning a hole in my pocket on eBay, and it's coincident with me really wanting a NanoVNC. In my research it seems some of the clones out there are built better than others.

I haven't been able to get answers from sellers on Ebay, so I thought I'd ask if any of you have bought one recently (in the US) and can confirm that you have the shielded version?

If so, I'm interested in hearing who to buy from.

I have seen reports of the quality variability. The person responsible for the current design, who apparently doesn't make them any more, suggested that finding ones with shielding was a clue to higher quality.

I realize I may get a dud, but for $35-40... I'm willing to give it a try.

I have .

I works fine, very impressed. I've done my own testing and it's quite a neat little device and accurate.

There's some debate over whether the mixers need to have shields over them. Mine didn't, although I made some for it. However, it seems to be a non-issue. People with the knowledge and equipment to test this have done so and found it's nothing to worry about if it comes without shields.

I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.

That is good to hear, thank you. I see yours is the white face / lizard variety. Maybe I'll aim for one of those.  :)

I bought one recently from eBay. Incredibly cheap and OK up to 1GHz (OK for ham radio; no good for BLE and WiFi).

Fairly well built, but I suggest if you have a 3D printer you print one of these enclosures to protect everything including the switches at the side...

Beware there are two main types of VNAs out these; hence there are two types of cases. One wont fit over the Micro USB but the other will. Here is the photo of my NanoVNA with its enclosure... printed in black PLA+ (to impress the chicks). The cover at the end contains the stylus.

Mine ... printed in two-tone PLA, one for me and another for a friend ... you know - to impress the chicks.  8)

Very nice!  Love the enclosures. Another reason to finally dig out and fix my printer.
