NASA space probe laser communications demonstration - with cats!
« on: December 20, 2023, 07:33:02 am »
Psyche, on its way to the main belt to visit the asteroid of the same name, carries a NIR-based deep space optical  communications experiment.

This was successfully demonstrated on december 11th - aptly with a video of a cat chasing a red laser dot:

Did the NASA guys pick this video to make their project look all cute to tiktok viewers? All bets are open.

Science communication is an art; this is a good thing, it got space science reported in mainstream news which is great.  I like the cat video from NASA and long may they continue.

Yes , they could have used it - i only doubt the name of the actor would be "Taters" and that he would chase a laser dot . . .  >:D
