National Identity
« on: October 15, 2012, 12:39:28 am »

Among the many other things I have done in my various careers, I taught US History to sixteen year olds for a few years, and remain certified to teach secondary social studies here in the state of South Carolina. I never got around to teaching anything else in that field other than US History, but could have taught World History, Geography, Econ and American Government (among other things)  well enough.

I am also an American and (reasonably, usually) pretty proud of it, but really work hard at maintaining a relatively global perspective on things and take such considerations as culture, history and geography into account when trying to understand how people think and feel on various topics.

But, I have a bit of a problem here...a fairly large percentage of the participants on this forum do not have any clear indication showing as to their nation of origin. This, combined with their using various vague nom de plumes instead of real names, leave me wondering sometimes just what in the hell somebody is thinking or feeling and why. I have my little American flag flying proudly (enough) next to my "handle" and avatar partially so you can know that I am writing from a US perspective so you can take that into account when considering arguments and formulating responses.

If you do not have a comparable little flag flying yourself, why not?
