Dur to a rule change,, we are now being screwed by the cable company. The FCC changed a rule that made the cable companies put on many lower channels tuneable by the TV tuner. I used this ability to watch news channels in several other rooms on TVs simply by running cable to these other rooms (and my garage). That is now impossible, as the cable company took advantage when this rule was removed and are forcing you to rent a box for each TV in each room. Cha-Ching!

What I need is a way to transmit audio/video directly from the video output of one of the boxes and receive it on another TV. I will just turn on the cable box and set it to the channel I want to watch in the other room. Does anyone know of a consumer product that will do this?
I told my friends I could teach them to be funny, but they all just laughed at me.

What cable company is this? We don't have a single box between the cable and any TV in the house! (Time Warner in upstate New York)
No longer active here - try the IRC channel if you just can't be without me :)

Charter.

Here's a news article that explains it -

Quote
Watching basic cable on your TV used to be simple. But if the FCC has its way, basic cable won’t be so basic (or free) anymore.

Under a recent Federal Communications Commission rule change effective Dec. 10, millions of television owners who do not currently have a cable box will have to get one for every set, according to public service consumer resource guide Consumer World.

And for some consumers, that could mean an additional monthly rental fee to access cable down the road.

"The FCC has once again found a way to pick the pockets of cable customers,” Consumer World founder Edgar Dworsky said in a press release.

Under the FCC's new rule, local cable TV operators can now scramble their signals, which means a set-top box will be required on every TV to view programs. Those boxes cost around $10 each per month, according to Consumer World.

Yea that's what I need. If you've used them then I'll take it they work OK.

Thanks.

So only one cable box needed, just get a remote blaster as well and you can control the box and change channels as well.

Lucky you have "competition" in the telco sector.

Years ago I tried a similar video sender, it was a 2.4Ghz model.  The experience was really, really bad... It did not work at all for me, and that could have been environment related I guess, but I couldn't get it to work more than 1 room distance away.... beyond that it was fuzz and snow, just like 1976 again :)

Perhaps a more powerful unit, or a different unit would have worked better, but I didn't experiment with all the different units on the market, and there wasn't very many at that time.  Now there seems like more units available, and different frequencies too. I would prefer something lower than 2Ghz, say 900Mhz or 450Mhz but that would need a bigger antenna I guess. For consumer use, the small antennas of the 5GHz models are appealing in your living room.

I just recommend you do your research first before you buy a particular brand, and see if you can find a review of it.

good luck.

The sender we used had a ir repeater built in. Very useful. But definitely research the models available before you spend the dollars.
