How ignorant we are here in California, particularly Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. about electricity and light?; when good number of people were dumb enough to place an I Phone into their microwave oven in attempt to recharge the battery.  Here is the story:  http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-do-not-microwave-iphone-20140923-story.html

Microwave ovens are for cooking, not for recharging batteries.  Enough people believed in this unusual method of recharging a telephone batteries that it made it to the Los Angeles Times news.

How hard would be be to actually design a phone to charge in a microwave?
There sure is enough energy bouncing around inside, all you need is to shield it and prevent it from heating up somehow.

I think the biggest problem is that you can't charge the battery that fast. So even if you would find a way to receive the energy without destroying the rest of the circuit, you couldn't use it.

Yes, 800W and with an antenna for the wifi designed to receive it, but with power handling only able to handle less than 10mW of power. As well internal traces of about the right length that they all act as small antennas and couple the energy right into the silicon inside, at power levels about 6 orders of magnitude above the design specs. Exploding battery will be the least problem there, the exploding display, boards and such will go first, as the foil pouch of the battery will provide a few extra seconds of shielding before it arcs away totally.

You might die faster from the chlorine gas, but in both cases a premature death is almost guaranteed.
