New ebay web page design (Are web designers stupid or what?)
« on: January 27, 2018, 01:37:09 pm »
Just opened up my ebay summary page to see, some retarded moron has yet again crippled what was already perfectly in working order:

What kind of idiot needs this? When I click on the shipping tracking, the only thing I care of is the shipping checkpoint list. I do not care about a large text message, I do not care about the picture of the item, I do not care about some stupid blue line with two circles at each end, I only care about what now occupies 20% of the dialog box at most. Yes, that is the list at the bottom, which you need to scroll like a stupid idiot.

Don't make a web designer that does this ever to fall in my hands. I would beat the hell out of him!

Rant end.  :horse: :horse: :horse: :box:

Everything looks crap on a phone-sized screen, so this doesn't look especially bad :(

Sent from my keyboard using WhackAMouseButton
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.
Glider pilot's aphorism: "there is no substitute for span". Retort: "There is a substitute: skill+imagination. But you can buy span".

Be happy there is still detailed tracking information, Australia Post nerfed its publicly visible tracking data so you went from getting logged at every sorting/customs facility to now usually just a item picked up and item dropped off event with no information in-between. Extra confusion when a package is tagged as delivered when the driver scanned it before going off shift and its actually sitting in their van waiting until they have enough deliveries in the same area to bother dropping it off, but they had to scan it to keep up their metrics of XXX deliveries per day or XXX maximum hours in transit.

Have you considered that the design is not arbitrary or accidental? It is the product of focus groups, surveys, complaints and other customer feedback. Whist it might not suit you exactly it is possible you are not a typical Ebay customer.

People who buy clothing or shoes for example might find a photo the ideal way to know which purchase this message relates too. The visual graphic of the blue line will suit people who process information in a visual way. That's why we have graphs and diagrams.

No I have not, why would I? If I want to see tracking information, I want to see tracking information, not ten other things.

Strongly doubt this is a result of any kind of sensible survey, thought or feedback. It is just modern garbage!
