New killer battery in the town?
« on: April 14, 2018, 08:17:16 pm »
Has anyone heard of this new battery: us18650vc7?

This seems to be the latest, best 18650 for low drain (<8A) applications. In another words, anything but vape.

Has anyone used this one in a design? The numbers are very decent, and the very few actual tests put it to the overall No.1, topping ncr18650ga.

Any ideas how good this is? I want to use some in a project.

The major concerns I have are that I plan to design my product to have user replaceable calls, so I don't have to ship them as hazardous goods. However, the Sony cell is much harder to source than the universally available Panasonic. Also, since Sony Energy has been bought by Murata, will they limit cells leaking to the wild remains unknown. In other words, will that cell keep being around in the future? I don't have to worry about NCR18650GA, but I have no idea when or if the stock of the Sony cell will deplete.

That is hardly a new cell, been around for a few years now. A cell with very similar performance is the Samsung INR18650-35E. Both great cells for high density packs.
