Hello,

my name is Jan and I live in West-Cork in Ireland. Originally I am from Germany but fell in love with the beautiful countryside at the south-west coats of Ireland. I am a qualified electrician (many many years ago) and have experience mostly in the industrial and commercial field of work. Was also for a spell in the defense forces where I had mainly to do with Power Generation for mobile weapon systems. Since 1999 I am full time in IT working on the network side of things as Network Engineer with a focus on MAN and WAN networks for ISPs in Germany and Ireland. Through the entire time I was always interested in electronics and tinkered around with stuff, sometime with success more time with magic smoke ;-). Never did the math properly etc...... I want to spend more time on electronics now along with 3D printing. Both go hand in hand very well I think. I have recently started to get myself proper equipment. Have to admit I also bough some stuff that turned out to be crap (Uni-T Multimeter comes to mind). I have done some work related stuff with Arduinos for backup battery monitoring of voltage and current but I am not a big programmer. I usually get by finding snippets of code or circuits on the Internet and adapt and modify to suit my needs. I am now faced with the need of a new bench power supply. I currently have a PSU from the 80th (I think), an old PowerTronic Linear supply +/- 15V, +5V and 0-24V 0-2A. I like this PSU but I like better to build my own. I have found some projects on the Internet that look promising, one in particular with is using a modular approach. So that will be my 1st project to start in depth why each component is the value it is and why its there, understanding how it works and how I can adapt it safely and reliable to my needs. I am watching the the Youtube channel since some time, love it !!!

I have one pressing question to start with so I go and seach if it was answered before.

Thanks and again, hello to everybody !
Jan P.

Hello,

My name is Andrew and I live in the centre of England. I've been meddling in electronics for over 40 years both professionally and as a hobby. I've worked in the telecommunication and computer industries. I'm currently clearing out the junk, rearranging the test benches and updating some of my test gear in my workshop room.  It's amazing what junk you accumulate over the years. :)

Greetings EEVblog forum members

It says introduce yourself, so here I am. A little about me:

Growing up a nerd I was eternally curious about most things. From a young age, I took apart more than a few magic electric boxes to try to understand the magic therein, both with and without the permission of adults. However, not understanding the bits inside, and not having parents, teachers, an older mentor or an Internet which could guide my interest, my curiousity eventually drifted to computers and I ended up pursuing a career in IT, because EE was too inscrutable.

However, my interest never truly faded, and a little over a decade ago, I asked myself, "Okay, this guitar amplifier sounds good, but just *how* does it work?" As the Internet was then broadly available, down the rabit hole I went. When I finally got Ohm's Law, it was like getting the key to the first gate of many, and also crossing an event horizon past which I could never again remain ignorant that the magic inside the electrical box *can* be bent to my will, even if I don't yet understand *how*. Seriously, they should be teaching Ohm's law in High school, right after one has enough (pre-)algebra to work with it.

And so I read some more, learned some things, drew a few schematics, and even did some (very minor) mods for my guitar amps and effects pedals. Time passed and my interest waned for a bit after I stopped playing guitar regularly, and was finding the default capabilities of magic boxes good enough for the time being.

But that dry spell has been ending. In the past few years, I've grown more interested again, had various ideas for projects, been reading and learning again. I'd say in the past 6 months or so, I've really been itching to work on things. I expect to have time for my more ambitious projects before the year is out.

In my researching various things related to my project ideas, Google has sent me this way multiple times. I'm of the impression that it's one of the largest communities electronics hobbyists and professionals on the Internet. So, I expect I'll be around for a while, to get help and advice with my various projects. Hopefully in time, I'll be able to offer advice as well.

Hi, I'm Prajay Madhavan from Bangalore, India. I had worked as an RF and Analog application engineer for Texas Instruments for 17 years before parting ways and starting on my own. I started the company ZSCircuits Electronic Systems in Bangalore in 2018. I had been a hobbyist from my childhood, which I spent mostly tinkering electronic appliances. Apart from electronics, I do a bit of carpentry, software development, and fishing at my home town Kochi. I travel frequently when I am not in my lab. I am really loving eevblog.

I designed a Power Profiler tool for IOT Applications named ZS-2102-A. This is now being sold online and is quite useful to measure the current profile and battery life of IOT devices in the lab.

Typical forum always has a tread on introducing members.  ;D ;D

Hello from Malaysia. I am currently studying in Sunway Monash University Campus in Electrical & Computing System Engineering (2nd year). I got a bit bored by the typical theoretical lecture and wanted to buy some lab instrument for the practical side. I recently bought PICkit 3, fluke 289/FVF, LCR meter TH2821, some soldering tools and breadboards. I am currently building my own linear power supply for my micro-controller and looking forward to start learning micro-controller myself.  ;)

Hello everyone,

i am a DSP engineer, but i also have a well rounded knowledge in other disciplines as well. i have also an extensive experience in vhdl design and pcb layout, designed and implemented many projects with a wide variety of micro-controllers, and also designed and implemented several GUIs and APIs. which means that i usually fine myself in system engineering roles, and it also means that i can do some interesting projects from start to finish on my own, though i am not sure if this a good thing or a terrible thing :)
