Title: Newark-overcharging shipping
Post by: bmn on January 28, 2019, 10:38:50 pm
Hey electronics friends...

I just want to warn all of you in USA to be careful when using newark.com to order oversize items and items stocked at their overseas warehouse .

I made a purchase and ordered some bigger parts and parts that were shown as shipped from UK stock on newark.com.  Just before I typed the CC# and clicked place order I was shown a full dollar amount that included item cost, tax, extra cost for shipping of oversize items and items from UK warehouse.  What happened later is that newark.com, as it shipped order pieces by pieces, sent me several receipts by email-basically breaking full order into several smaller orders. When I added the dollar value from each receipt they sent me, I noticed that the total amount for the entire order was increased by whooping 20% extra.

The issue is not charging extra for large items and items stocked overseas.  The issue is that during checkout, newark.com has shown an amount for the entire order (breakdown of item cost tax, shipping), but after shipments were made they updated charges by upping total charge by nearly 20%from original value.

To me this practice is stupid and dishonest.    I contacted them to rectify this situation and they ignored all my requests for clarification.   I will never buy anything from newark.com.

Just please be aware that newark may  change transaction total after shipment  and then ignore customers attempting to contact them.

Revoke the payments. You only authorized the initial payment, not a succession of smaller ones. That should force them to seek contact with you.

How to revoke the payment?  I never done that.  Do I have to return items?  Will it affect my credit?

Contact your credit card processor and communicate you didn't authorize these amounts. You didn't, after all. Companies can't just collect random amounts.

Yes, just call your credit card and say "I want to dispute these charges which I did not authorize". Normally they will immediately credit your account and notify the seller that the charge is being disputed. Most of the time the seller won't bother and after a certain period (60 days?) the credit becomes final. Otherwise the seller has to prove the charges were authorized by you. They may try to do this for larger amounts which were legitimate charges but most of the time they will not bother with the process because of the time it takes.

Not only that but it costs a business each time their charges are put in dispute.  If a business gets a lot of disputes the credit card processor might even revoke their account.

I always look at the item stock location and avoid ordering anything from UK stock, problem solved.

So do I. I always exclude the extended stock or whatever they call it.

That said.. I thought that in case an item is not in stock they propose to either wait for the out-of-stock item to be back in before shipping or to make partial shipments. I would expect you chose the latter at some point and didn't read the not-so-fine print?
