Newark ripping off customers on shipping

I'd have thought that the rarity of anyone paying by check would mean extra manual labor to deal with the order and higher costs to them, at least eating up what is saved on credit card fees. Someone has to open the envelope, stamp the endorsement on the check and deposit it.

And deal with it when it's in the wrong amount.

I tried this for the first time earlier this year, mostly as an experiment. I setup my cart online and went through most of the checkout in order to have the correct amount, including tariffs and tax. My order also only included items that had a pretty large stock so everything was available when my check arrived (along with a paper copy of my desired order). There were no glitches with my order, so I don't know how it goes when the amount is wrong or when items are out of stock.
But I was surprised, too. Almost made me feel guilty...

Newark has always charged almost $20 to Spain.
And that was 10 years ago. Now that's some serious stabbing.
EPAIII:
But is that Newark's doing or Spain's doing? I mean do other suppliers charge less to deliver there?

Farnell charges $14 for local shipping, but some parts are only available from Newark US, so it increases to $18, same as Mouser.
Then comes RS, just $5+VAT, however lately they're lacking a lot of stuff, but normally my choice is clear!
