O2 internet filters
« on: December 24, 2013, 06:47:54 pm »
Well, O2 has parental controls and automatic internet filters for everyone else as well, and there is a site to see what it blocks. I found that sites such as Agilent, CNN, and the EEVBlog forum itself were all blocked under the parental controls for K-12 students. The only thing i found unblocked was the useless game Club penguin. If I were a parent, I would rather my kid be looking at oscilloscopes.
I'm not saying we should kill all stupid people. I'm just saying that we should remove all product safety labels and let natural selection do its work.

There's a confusion here.

The online check website says that the sites you entered are filtered under a profile "something something 12 years old".

That's not the obligatory government imposed filtering system, it's a custom system parents can opt in separately and isn't on by default. In that system, all sites are automatically filtered and only manually whitelisted sites (by o2 employees or whoever designed the filtering system) are allowed. So it's normal that pretty much everything you enter there will show up as filtered.

Ahhh. That is for 12 under? Not sure why categories such as "business" are blocked. Educational sites sich as HyperPhysics are blocked as well.

Annoying aren't they. K12 is school up to grade 12, or around age 16 in most cases. Sites blocked because they might learn more than the school teaches........ CNN blocked because they might learn there is a world out there that is not all soft and cuddly. Wonder if Wikipedia is blocked, there is some "naughty' content there. Stuff like maths, chemistry, geography, history.
