On line buying woes and crap web shops / sites
« on: February 25, 2023, 01:47:26 pm »
I,m not a web designer just a web user and am struggling to understand what the problem is with some company's  / businesses that show a basket and its really in- active , the store is just an on line catalog for their wares and to buy a product from them you have to send emails about what you want and fill out pro forma, just defeats the object of an online site with a basket icon.
Case in point Spain and Portugal, pretty poor,  is it a problem with the choice of web creation platform  / web designer person and they're interpretation of what a site should be capable of, have they ever seen a good web site with an on-line shop ?.!.
Does the ideology of  web page design with an on-line shop vary from country to country.

This is common for companies stuck in the early dot com days before online payments where a thing. Typically their IT department is made up of old guys 😅

Number of suppliers in the UK do the same thing. Though this is more to do with getting your contact details to sell you more than what you want.

In Spain they even list their bushiness in the on line yellow pages with just a phone number and address  , 40 years behind cant make it out ?!

The other thing which really bugs me any online cart shop or retailer MUST have a contact number by UK law not just an email address or AI chat bot. Rather than having to wait a number of days before getting an email ping pong trail to start  |O

What happend to just making a call talking to someone who knew how to deal with your and take a card payment, pogress eh?

A poorly designed automated system is cheaper than a human staffed position every day of the week.

The company I work for is a manufacturer in a rather competitive market.  Our sales and support teams have allowed us to carve a niche market for those willing to pay the marginal premium for customers who value those services.  I believe this also leads to greater customer satisfaction, which in turn lowers complaints and returns.

I remember how the Fry's web site was very badly designed. Not surprised they went out of business.
