Osciiloscope video

Have been playing around a little with my Tektronix 2236 today.

Thought this was kinda cool.

The screenshot below, used my laptop as a way to generate the precise vertical sawtooth required from my Sega Genesis, which is actually 59.92 Hz.  The horizontal was achieved actually by simply setting my timebase knob to sweep at the right speed that I needed, and then use the little cal knob to dial it in correctly.  This isn't perfect though, it still loose horizontal hold.  The vertical over time DOES scroll.  The composite video output of the console is connected to the Z input of the scope.

The second link, is just completely from my soundcard.  It was a 32-bit 96KHz audio file.

If you can find a DC coupled audio output, then you should be able to prevent the display from bouncing all over the place.

It's a FLAC file, VLC works good, but I noticed on some sound cards, you may need to invert channel B.

Oh good it is in flac format. I tried an mp3 of oscillofun once and it just filled the screen with garbage, once I found a flac it was fine.

You'll need to find the specs on your sound card.  The file is 32-bit 96KHz.

Audacity can slow it down so it doesn't get aliased by the sound card, distorting the graphics, you'll just have to match the sampling rate of your sound card though.  Might be 48KHz max or something.  Even if 16-bit that should be fine, it's 32-bit float.

At my PC I have an integrated sound card in my motherboard named Intel Topsfield dp43tf.
There is probably a RealTek ALC888VC audio codec.

It could be set to 96kHz sampling rate, maybe... I am not familiar with this.

I'll be honest, same brand of DAC my MacBook Pro uses, and it looks like it supports the same formats.  It should work.

Try it in VLC with volume at 100%, and computer volume at 100%..  Maybe something is just making it play wrong or something.  I would think even a DSO can do this, though it'll show the retrace lines, unlike the analog scope.

I tried the flac with a couple of players on my android phone and it just jumped to the end without any sound. I had previously fed oscillofun from a flac into my scope with no problems. I guess it doesnt like the 96k stuff.

Thats not cheating, its called pure "analog" magic. 

Btw, is there any program that can convert any video to that FLAC signal ? or that one is "hand-crafted" ?

I tried unsuccessfully to get Felix going on my Tek 2236, 2467 and my Rigol 2072A using 2 different computers. I could kind of barely make out some of the animation during portions of it...but no joy

Since people seem to be having problems with the FLAC, I might try re-downloading it and doing it on my tek tonight.  I wonder if media fire butchered the file.

There is, it'll take me some time to find the link though..  There's a bit of conversion that has to be done.
