OT: Palm Corned Beef
« on: March 09, 2012, 04:38:20 am »
What do Aussies and Kiwis pay per 11.5oz can these days?

A local Asian store carried it for US$5, but they were ran out of business by another much larger store selling the same product for US$6.

To buy ounces of anything here is illegal. Has been since 1975.

Good Aussie Corned beef wont ever be that evil in a tin!

My old Mum's slow cooked corned beef is to die for and is free, but only to close relatives.  ;)

The authentic homemade stuff is a pipedream for most. Palm is closest thing I can find, and despite being canned produce, it's damn expensive stuff. :-\

are you wanting sammiches or a brisket?  Sam's has briskets and deli sliced.

theres a McCallister's on newberry ave. they make a bomb Reuben.  43rd st deli probably serves decent reuben.

You are making me hungry, will go to the German deli on Monday to get some on a roll. Most is made on the premises, I often see the pigs going in, and he has lovely home made smoked pork and bacon, love the bacon bones he has as well.

NEVER! Canned food and ramen is the lifeblood of engineering creativity!!

Besides, there appears to be a ton of Aussies and Kiwis on this forum, so I thought I'd pop the question...with the prerequisite OT disclaimer, of course.

Fit's entirely within the confines of general chat, I don't see a problem if you wish to discuss international price fluctuations of dubious foodstuff.

Spam in full fat or lower fat versions are a Yankee, "American" canned food with pork hog shoulders, fat, and preserving saline gel.  Span is most popular in Hawaii.  I try to stay away from it, because of the fats and sodium nitrite preserving.  Spam is made by Hormel Foods and a plant is at Stockton, California, U.S.A. in the agricultural great Central Valley and Delta region here.  Meat prices are higher these days, because animal feed and transportation fuel prices are higher.  Animal feed is often used to make fuel alcohols for the petroleum industries, thus causing food prices to be higher and food insecurity for lower income households.  We have food banks, instead of soup kitchens and bread lines, terrible.

Pal is probably healthier than spam, less salt and no nitrites, You can also use the tins for project boxes the spam ones have a sharp edge but the pal ones have a rolled edge after opening. If you go to an Indian restaurant for a curry you most likely get the pal.

Wet miserable day today so decided to cook corned beef.
Served with potatoes and beans, fresh from the garden, and mustard sauce.

Just the thing after spending the day hunched over a hot oscilloscope.  ;)

Actually more a case of over a hot keyboard reading datasheets and trying to learn the vagaries of Eagle  >:(
