Following the grief this captcha is causing on Patreon, found out tonight that if you update your browser it then thinks you're logging in from an 'unknown device' and requires special verification.

'Stupid' just doesn't even begin to describe this. Since it will deter people from patching/updating, it is a security risk in its own right.  :palm:

At the moment it's just Patreon doing this, but imagine if numerous sites did the same.

It seems you can fool it by changing the useragent string back to the old value, but most users wouldn't know how to do that.

I can just imagine...  Considerably reduced traffic would be my first guess.  I don't have time for messing around with cantankerous web sites.

I've already switched from Newegg to Amazon whenever possible because of the recaptcha bullshit that Newegg added not long ago. I'm not against verification in general, but there are other ways to do it that are quicker and don't piss off your customers.
