Phillip Harris signal generator

I have just recieved this today, i got it on ebay for £13.45 inc postage. It was labeled as a power supply in the listing but was obviously not that from the photograph, it's a signal generator. I was hoping that some one might have some information on the unit, I am not sure of the date of manufacture but I would guess its late 60's early 70's from the construction. It in working order in as much as that I get an output signal in both sine and square wave and that is variable in level and frequency, I know no more at this time but any information would be appreciated.

I saw that on ebay. I messaged the seller to tell him it was a signal generator not a power supply but he obviously ignored me. Good buy...

I think the 6817 is a date code on the yellow Dubilier cap, so probably made in/after 1968.

I would think that it has been in a school all its life. There are no calibration stickers but lots of electrical safety test stickers the last one expired in 2011.

I have bought modern Philip Harris data logging equipment and have experience of teh companies support. Unless someone on the WWW has some old documentation I think you will be stuck in this respect and PH do not supply schematics even in original documentation. I have written to Philip Harris several times in the past asking for no more than a copy of the instruction manual for equipment that was current only two years ago. The response....Zilch ! not even a 'sorry we can't help'. I have read teachers reports that they are a very frustrating company to deal with. Deleting products and support at the same time.... not nice. Philip Harris also don't like to supply software, even when a product is out of support. A nightmare company IMHO.

I hope the sig gen is of use/interest but I am now avoiding Philip Harris kit. I note that much of it sells very cheaply on ebay........bad reputation ?

It had its first use in anger today, I have just built a couple of bat detectors and wanted a sound source to test them with so I just stuck a small speaker on itand wound the frequency up to around 80Khz or so worked very well.
