Samsung 'SmartPhone' "SideSync" seems good !!??
« on: May 07, 2019, 10:12:32 am »
Years ago, I played around with 'TeamViewer', until I realized the problems/implications with
'scammers' trying to con people into connecting that way...  However, I've always used Samsung
smart-phones, and only RECENTLY learnt about their 'specific' App, which works in reverse ! (& no Internet!).

I'm basically a 'home-body', and I much prefer to do ALL my graphics/photo editing on my various Laptops.
I've used apps like 'Dropbox' to transfer files/pics etc from phone to laptop. Extensively edit them, and re-save
them to the HDD. Re-sending them (& finding them again) to my SmartPhone, is a pain. (I have my reasons!).

I recently noticed 'SideSync' on my phone. (Had never looked at it before). I researched it, and downloaded
the appropriate Windows Software on my Laptop, so as communicate with it.  From..........
https://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/sidesync
Their is no 'Security' issue I can see, as it does NOT work via the Internet, like 'TeamViewer' does !!!
It works only either via your local 'WiFi' (secured phone/laptop/router), or a direct USB cable, locally.

Here's a partial pic from my laptop screen, while it is running. Read more below........

You can now fully operate your SmartPhone with your mouse/keyboard on your PC/Laptop.
Simple 2-way Drag & Drop of files from PC, even within Apps !! Send 'Text' msgs , etc etc from
your phone by using your Keyboard, including multimedia MMS messages. Does all I want now!  :D
If using your WiFi, it auto-connects both devices when in range.

EDIT:  I just noticed the top-left 'app' on that page in my pic above, for 'Sensors Multitool'....
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wered.sensorsmultitool&hl=en_AU
You wouldn't believe the number of real 'Sensors' in your Phone, and the data they return !!!   8)

Actually its quite old for Samsung's app, for new generation Samsung Android gadgets, they supplied from factory an app called "Samsung Flow" instead of SideSync. Forgot where I read it, that Samsung will slowly phase out SideSync.

Tips : For better latency, use the computer's USB connection to your phone, its far more superior in term of latency compared to wireless connection and charge your phone too, as this SideSync drains battery really fast, of course provided both desktop & android in close vicinity as your USB cable length.

If you love to work remote, vice versa desktop <-> phone when you're not at home, learn how to use VPN, and connect your phone to home's network. Your Wifi router should support it (as any decent new models, the private VPN feature is a norm now).

Examples. you can remotely control much-much better/faster/low latency to your desktop PC thru your phone using TightVNC, slim & mean remote application. The PC's side is freeware (open source), and the phone app's side is really-really cheap (called Remote Ripple), its just few bucks, and its one time payment for perpetual license and perpetual support, no more annoying slow, bloatware & mafia like business model like TeamViewer.  :--

Again, just configure your home's network connected to your own private VPN "properly & secured", once done, you can freely connect anywhere and its like you're working at home. You can shutdown your desktop, or even better, as long its properly configured, you can turn on your desktops/laptops selectively by sending the Wake-On-LAN wake-up packet thru your VPN from your phone, and many-many other possibilities.

Hope this helps.
