Title: Post a picture of a cat!
Post by: nctnico on July 07, 2016, 04:37:05 pm
I'm getting tired of threads about Brexit, people getting killed in their Teslas or miss Clinton's whatever so lets do something different and post a picture of your/a cat (but no photoshopped images!)!

This I can do easily!  (It's funny you should start this thread - after the workbench thread posts, I thought about beginning a 'Caturday' thread like the one that's been going for years on another forum I belong to.)

Piglet (the luckiest cat in town; two years ago this August as a three month old kitten she was dropped out of a pickup truck and abandoned next door to a friend's house when I happened to be there, but that's a long tale for another time.  Suffice it to say that I hate people!):

Sparky (the grande dame of the lot, her purring will register on nearby seismographs):

Peanut (passed two years ago in April.  Deaf as a post, but a great cuddler):

Gilmore (the mischievous male in the workbench thread):

This is Keshasha, the cat from upstairs. Did come for a visit one morning as she fell out of the window, and landed by my window a little shaken up, and wanted to come indoors away from the outside..

Also a parcel from Electrodacus, mounted on a brass plate and which is hanging on my wall.

To get back to the feline variety...

A formerly feral cat taken in by a friend in Maryland.  (The other two or three in his family decided that the cushy life beat living under a barn and eventually decided to move in, too.):

(I should have turned the ISO setting on the camera down; it wasn't THAT dark when I took it and it would have been much less grainy.  It's otherwise a decent picture.  |O)

Lots of photographers are actually a lot more down to earth than people realise. But they also know that judges are way up there in the clouds and think they know it all. The nice thing about your picture and I don't actually see much in the way of graininess is that the cat's face is in quite sharp focus while the rest of it is not so focused and the background is very out of focus which removes clutter. Selective focusing is a very well used technique in photography to get rid of a cluttered background and add significant to the main subject of the picture. When I was a member of a photography club I used to take in 2 competitions photos of the particular architecture that was in the area where I used to live in Italy. Not being very well known as the particular type of architecture only exists within a 15 mile radius the judges had never seen anything like it. Of all the judges that saw my photos most of them tried to guess at what it was and pretend to know what they were talking about only one said as his very 1st comment "I haven't got a clue what that is and I'd like the author to come and tell me during the break".

Yes, that one was shot with a 50mm f/1.2 that was wide open, so the depth of field is extremely shallow.  I find that I'm usually shooting either nearly wide open or stopped down to f/11 or smaller.  Most of my gear pics are taken at small apertures to get more in focus - the tripod is a huge help there with the long exposures needed in that case.

Selective focus and the ability to control DOF is definitely one place that the real camera shines over those in iPhones and the like.  Don't get me wrong, the phones take incredibly detailed photos, especially given their size, and I use mine frequently, but they're nowhere near replacing real cameras at this point as far as versatility and creativity go.  They're extremely convenient as well, which can bite you in the backside.  I wish I'd grabbed the SLR more often that the phone last year to get pictures of the kittens as they grew.  I'd do occasional bursts of pics with the camera, but most of the day-to-day stuff was with the phone because it was immediately at hand.  I could have gotten much better shots with the camera.  Oh well - live and learn.

Various Siamese and Burmese we've had over the years love body heat and I've found them particularly adept at maintaining their balance while draped across your shoulders. Then they can get the heat, be close to you, keep an eye on you and best of all you'll then have your hands free.  ;D

Seems you need to adjust your display settings. The grain (reddish/greenish) is rather obvious in the picture, as Cubdriver rightfully noted. I don't mind the grain so much, the overexposed light behind the cats head is more of an annoyance, as it disturbs the image and turns the cat into a rabbi with a white hat, sort of... Aside from this, i really love the picture. The mood set by the color/tone, the back light nicely contouring the left ear against the dark backdrop, and the cats inquisitive pose itself. :)
(Then again, i love all the other cat pictures too, because cats... ;) )

I find the lack of foxes in this thread disturbing.
A couple of days ago I saw a fox hunting near the road. I could watch it from about 15 meters away and it wasn't disturbed at all by several people watching.

Enough foxes... time for the cats I co-owned!
When I lived at my parents we also had two male cats. First this one which we got dibs on before he was born. I held this cat in my hand when he was just born and the size of a mouse. Ofcourse a cat doesn't stay that small. This picture is taken when he was around 18 and his bad fur days increased. He was a very smart cat too. He could open doors and get the one-way cat hatch open by using his paw. I think he died 20 or 21 years old.

And besides mice our first cat brought in a friend about the same age (he looks too red-ish in this picture, in reality he was more towards pink and I have never seen a similar cat ever since). Or maybe he just invited himself since we couldn't get him out of the garden. Also his fur was dirty and he obviously wasn't feeling right so we took him to the vet for a checkup and some treatment. Since he wasn't going anywhere we decided to keep him. He still managed to get over 18 years old.

Both cats where very sweet and they always slept together.

I'm not sure if this will work or not, but the lanky orange male has taken to climbing the ladder up into the attic.  Usually he hears me coming and gets down before I can see him, but I just put the air conditioner in and, masked by its noise, managed to sneak up on him the other day.  I haven't gotten him climbing up to get in there, but did get him coming down...  He's a piece of work!

Ok, I don't know how to embed the video - it's the last thing in this gallery, on page 4:

Why cats? The internet is full of them, here is a picture of my lizard instead, it is 21years since I got it now, anyone knows how old a leopard gecko can get?

Ha!  I don't know but my 10 year old son has 2 of them. He's taking them with him when he leaves for college. They sure do go through a lot of crickets!

Uhhh...  Not to be excessively pedantic, but don't you mean a lot of crickets go through them?  :P :P

OK, a picture of an actual cat. The only cat I've ever owned (I'm more of a "dog person").  She had been abandoned and survived feral for at least a year before we started feeding her and eventually adopted her.  She got such a big belly on her skinny frame when we first started feeding her we thought she was pregnant.  She wasn't - but the name "Preggers" stuck. Great cat and incredible predator. Until her last few years, she spent most of her time outdoors.  Regularly brought home rabbits larger than her..

Boffin - beautiful torbie - they have some interesting coats.

Psi - the expression in the final frame is great.  Like you caught him watching porn or something similarly embarrassing.   :-DD

We got them both at the same time from the local shelter, but they are not siblings.    That was about eight years ago.

Cats, previously mentioned in the cat/dog person thread

White one is Squeaker, grey/white is Elwood, who once had a brother (not genetic) named Jake who quite a long time ago crossed the bridge.

Somewhere I have a picture of Elwood in a narrow box. I've seen almost the same picture with a "Wide Load" sign stuck on the back, looked so much like mine I had to look twice to see if they didn't just photoshop my picture, but it's not quite identical.

This picture reminds me of 'my' cats. They always slept together and they used to have a round basket in which they looked yin&yang as well. Funny how some cats like to sleep together even though strange cats usually don't tolerate eachothers presence.

Unfortunately, Model 1 has moved on to the big lab in the sky.   :'(  He had a good run while here, though,   :-+  so no complaints other than they all leave far too soon.  Unfortunately his pics are on a computer that's dead at the moment and not easily accessible.  He too was a mischievous orange boy kitty, very similar in appearance and temperament to the current model 3.

Here is model 2, on the bench even though she knows she's not supposed to be there:

This is Shadow, a new addition to my cat clan.

Around six months old, a semi-stray, she adopted me recently. Had been living in the rundown sheds at the back of a junkshop up the road, sometimes fed by the old guy who ran that shop. Cats are prescient - the buildings are soon to be demolished, and she seemed to think it was time to get a real home. She has a lovely placid, friendly personality, with bursts of playful demon.

Just Last week, I stole seven 4 week old kittens from their Feral mother under the house. They were eating Solid Foods, so it was okay to send them on their way. I posted on Craigslist, and within 3 hours, all gone, Sold them for $25-45 each.  You don't want to just give them away, because believe it or not, they end up just like that cat in the snakes stomach as above. :(

I'm sure the mom was hurtin from the milk. She was howling and looking for her kittens for a few days, seems okay now. But I had to catch them while I had the chance. Last thing we need around here are more Feral Cats.

Here's a couple pics of them (Top 3 pics of kittens, only took a shot of 3 of them) , as well as a pic of my 2 cats. The one with the bad eye (she lost it when a kitten), has 6 claws on each of her front paws. that's why I kept her.

The other one, grey one, is like 20 pounds. She's fat! But love her to death.

Alessa, named after a demon who had a sweet side and an evil side. She definitely does, bipolar schizo, manic depressive and half wild sometimes but she loves me. The name was inspired from when i first caught her (yes caught she was wild) and someone exclaimed "THE DEVIL!" and tried to shoot her. She is the queen.

Garfield, As dumb as a dead rock, his nickname is "The Great Pumpkin" He loves me. Was wild but just randomly abandoned his family and came into the house to live with me. Hasn't left since.

Midge, Very very smart and also very friendly. He is the king.

Moses, Named as a joke, he is dumb but not as pronounced as Garfield, he is friendly.

Tuesday there was a monster storm here, over 10cm of rain in the morning, and massive flooding and damage all over. These were rescued from the church next door, where they were living in the drain, and it flooded out of course. Now dry, well fed and looking for new homes, and quite comfortable with me.

I was out with Clive in his pickup, and we left the dumpsite 9H30, with sun shining. 10 minutes later we were in a downpour that got heavier, then windier, then hail, with visibility down to under 50m. Van went from caked with mud from the tyres to the roof ( dumpsite is kind of wet from previous rail the weekend) to washed, rinsed, power washed and cleaned in the 1 hour it took to get back. Had to change clothes as well, wet through and caked with mud as well.  That afternoon I got these kittens delivered to me in a box, sopping wet and cold, so stopped at the vet and got kitten milk for them, and they are surviving fine, though the mother cat is missing.

Locally there were a lot of cars destroyed in flooding, and many places lost the roofs along with the flooding. Quite a few insurance claims going through, and I was lucky, no damage at all from it.

This is  Wren. I found him "purrrr-ched" in a silver pine tree  in the park. As you can imagine, he stood out like a sore thumb, so I took him in, fed him, cared for him, the whole deal.

Turns out he really had a knack for spotting which parts are genuine and which are chinesium fakes. He slept in TME boxes only  if ALL the parts were genuine.  :-DD

Micah Elizabeth Scott programs a GPU to recognize a cat.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olaZ9p3Ap4I (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olaZ9p3Ap4I)
Works remarkably well considering it's in a very early stage. The detection of other objects is far less reliable but tracking the cat is the main goal.

I wonder whether Micah's code can recognise cats, or just specifically Tuco?

He's quite distinctive; nothing else in the lab is tabby coloured. But would it recognise a ginger cat, or a white one?

My cat Rocky is white with tabby patches. Perhaps he'd be classified as a whole family of cats? And as for his brother Sebastian, I've no idea.

Meet Garfield, dumb as a sack of rocks and no i am not just saying that. He is half bobcat and not quite done growing, currently he can stretch end to end 4 feet and when walking is at least 2 inches taller than any of my other cats.
His mouth is large enough that he could get it around a baseball, he is currently around 40 pounds and that linoleum tile he is sitting on is a sq foot, which he fills.
Luckily, very luckily, he is very friendly.

The ferals from next door. Sadly none of them survived the cat flu they got. mother though is fine, if I can get her neutered I might keep her, even though she is a little twitchy, but is becoming used to people now. Getting her used to sleeping in a cat carrier to make the trip to the vet easier.

Hers certainly seem to be!!  She often lies in a position with a half twist in her back and her hind feet pointed so she could kick herself in the head.  She had actually UNtwisted a little before that first picture after she woke up when I turned the light on, while I ducked out to get the phone to take the pictures.  (And as an aside, would anyone twenty years ago have thought we'd be saying "I want to take a photo - let me grab my phone"?)

Cats don't have bones in their shoulders (Clavicles) but rubbery bands instead. That is why cats can jump from great heights and still land without injuries.

The first bytes are 0x7F 'E' 'L' 'F'.  To be precise: an elf is in the house.

At my last flat, there was access to the roof and my two used to run around up there. One of them would disappear for hours on end, and wasn’t eating, but she wasn’t losing weight either: the only reason she seemed to come home was for a dump in the litter tray and increasingly rare cuddles. Some months later, in passing one of my neighbours mentioned she’d befriended an astonshingly well-groomed  “stray” cat, and wondered where it’d come from.

(Ours don’t wear collars but they are microchipped.)

We ALL know there are Dog LOVERS, and those that don't CARE one way or another......
However, there are MANY cat HATERS!!! and that's where take offence......
O.K. ....   A Cat won't (generally) chase a stick into the river & bring it back !!, or chase
a ball & bring it back,  (generally!!),  and I love dogs too & always had one !!!
However, being a lover of animals in 'general', I ALSO love my cats !!!
"YES" they are 'different'.... and for all imaginable reasons...
When they are just born & later, and they curl/cuddle against you, and learn to trust you.
Apart from 'Food', they absolutely love/trust/hug you, and fall asleep with total TRUST.
When you know a Cat long enough, you/they understand  each other and are at peace!!!
Sharing your bed/pillow, and purring.... "Damn dog is rolling in the horse-shit again" !!!!!
Love them both, but for different reasons xoxox

The Cat’s Diary

Day 983 of My Captivity

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates my capabilities. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a “good little hunter” I am. Bastards!

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of “allergies.” I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow, but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released, and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird must be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now ...

Why is it that among engineers, cats seem to be more popular than dogs?

Because engineers do not usually work an 8 hour day.

You can leave a cat at home for 16 hours and not have to let it outside.   You typically can't do that with dogs.

Well, you can, if they have their own house and a yard to run in, and stuff to play with.  And some places (like SparkFun (https://www.sparkfun.com/dog_policy)) nowadays let one bring their dogs to the workplace.

Cats, previously mentioned in the cat/dog person thread

White one is Squeaker, grey/white is Elwood, who once had a brother (not genetic) named Jake who quite a long time ago crossed the bridge.

They are once again snuggling together. I previously posted that Squeaker had passed, well, last night I came home to find Elwood has passed away peacefully in his sleep. Knew something was up, the dogs were arrayed outside the room where his bed is. usually they all hang out together when no one is home.

I have had cats all my life and know the heart ache of losing them, even doing voluntary work for the cats protection (UK cat charity) doesn't making it any easier when you go to the vets you know the outcome before you go through the door from 2-3 week old kittens to big 20+ year old moggies

I was adopted by 3 cats when I got married 15 years ago. Since then, I've shared my life with and buried eight. Only one passed in his sleep (my avatar). They are the most extraordinary creatures and how fortunate we are that they chose us to be their pets.

Quite right.  Though not a cat person but a dog person, I love my 2 like they are my children.  I lost my first dog as a teenager when my 5 year old Bull Mastiff passed away and I watched her go.  I have put down several dogs over the years so the suffering wasn't prolonged and each one was a heartbreak.  I, too, am very sorry for your loss.  I grieve with you.

Cats are fair game!  >:D One of the cats I had around as a teenager also moved in with us on his own prerogative. Cats don't leave their home unless they have a really good reason. Over a decade later we found out he was really scared of young children.

Yes  we went to our vet for a health check and vaccination. No chip no tattoo.

Most cats just don't like water but they all can swim.

From a local news website... This is something you don't see every day! Somewhere in Turkey they think cats benefit from knowing how to swim.
I have had three cats that liked water, two that could swim.
There is a high Coolness Factor associated with having swimming cats.

Orion, chief starter of mischief & mess making (then sits back and watches the carnage unfold).

Mikey, a rather stealthy model. He has a twin hidden out somewhere. They're built to run.

Symba, the intern. Fostering the little guy and his sisters until they can be adopted out by the local chapter of the Humane Society.

^ Seems he's found himself a nice new home.  :-+

Edit #2: Both of his sisters (both white), have also found homes.  :-+

I just hope that all three got good ones, as I wasn't there to meet the adoptive parents in any of their cases.

A new addition to the cat crew here. Mist, a stray female probably about 6 months. Started living in the woodheap outside, very cautious and secretive at first. Then realized the giants are friendly, give food, and have warm laps.  She's turning out to be extremely smart, on the cat scale. Talkative, affectionate, rapidly learning not to bite when startled, inquisitive and a barrel of mischief and fun.

They can be trained to be computer friendly, but I have not found out how.  I had one who would specialise in position ing herself between the screen and my face, on the keyboard. Wanting attention and tail up and arse in your face.  Her son belonged to an author and would come to stay.  He would stretch out across my lap and was quite happy to stay there for hours without causing any trouble.

This was Simon one of the sweetest cats I've ever met. I got him as a birthday present for my 18th birthday in 1999.
He loved to be carried around on my shoulder. He was a good mouse catcher and regularly brought them home - sometimes hanging half a mouse up to dry  :P.
I had to have him put down in 2011, he got very sick and constantly had nose bleeds. One of the hardest days  :'(.

Then in 2012 this fella, Max, decided to move in with us. He was one of our neighbours cats but didn't like their other cat. So he just moved two doors down the road. One day we had his vaccination certificate in our letterbox. Apparently he came from a bad home originally, so he's not very good with people. That's probably also the reason why he's a loner and not very cuddly. He's become more approachable with age, he now demands his 5 minutes of cuddling every day.

Now his previous owner has died and her son asked us if we would also take care of the other cat - we'll have to see how that works out...

It seems no matter what that they always leave us far too soon.  That's an awful decision to have to make, but some comfort has to come from knowing that it's for the best despite the hurt.

Simon must have been an awesome cat!

He sure was and of all the critters that have come into my life Morris had to be about the most memorable. It was the 1st time i ever shared my home with a pedigree compared the moggy strays that i took in through previous years. As a British Blue he was very aloof and never ever sat on my lap or leapt up onto the kitchen bench. He'd  seek attention & verification i was around by appearing at the most inconvenient time, be it at as i did something on the electronics bench or if i was under a car swapping out a transmission & he'd stand in precisely the wrong place!

Here's a YT of him with me speaking in my most ridiculous sounding voice ever (which many of us are guilty of apparently)..

This is the local sort of feral cat, she is again just slightly knocked up. No name, responds to kitty, and sort of allows you to scratch her. Looking to get her fixed up when she drops, last lot of 6 kittens died from cat flu though, they just did not make it when they caught it, and they did not respond to antibiotics when I gave them.

Gotta admit there's an opportunity to put some damn fine electronics smarts into one of those cow-brush things.... Motor torque auto-ranging, auto height, a dye-chem tag to mark the cow so there's a reference to her having had a good scrub and whether it increases her milk yield.... yadda-yadda....

I expect most are simple mechanical no bullshit systems so there's zero maintenance, the most important thing in that environment i guess.

My Siamese Taza developed diabetes. She started to pee a lot and got really skinny so had to take her in to see what was the issue. She responded to the insulin very well and now seems completely normal. Have to give two shots a day until we go back for a glucose curve, maybe one a day will do I hope.

Where do these cats on You Tube who help demo how to give insulin shots learn to stand still?  :palm:

Can't say for those on YT, but a former classic orange tabby I had named Duck Sauce was just a really great patient. Never gave me any issues with his insulin shots at all, even if I ended up hitting a tender spot (had to give him insulin for years).

Of course he was definitely a people kitty, so that probably had a lot to do with it (he knew he was going to get loved on).

One of my pair was recently diagnosed with diabetes. The same symptoms, although for about a year he’d had trouble digesting, we thought it was diet, we tried everything. Then suddenly he started drinking an awful lot, peeing a lot, lost a lot of weight over a few weeks, and became very lethargic. It’s taken a couple of months to get the doseage right, he’s on 3 units twice a day. He doesn’t have the same jumping strength he had, but other than that he’s the same old moggy. At one point in the early days of diagnosis when he was on one unit, he was so lethargic I thought he was a goner.

Regarding the injections, we put it in the scruff of his neck. First we lightly pinch the scruff, and he immediately becomes compliant, lying down, and in it goes. All done in a couple of seconds. My assumption is that this is a natural reaction, from when they were carried as kittens.

Oh, that's cruel! Cats need their claws, to defend themselves, climb, scratch itches, and other catty things. I can't imagine taking that away from them. Mine are outdoors mostly (open catdoor policy here) with a big back yard, trees, etc.

The one who drew blood is normally the most gentle and affectionate. But she's jumpy, and also a bit put out because the new young cat is taking some of her cuddles and treats. Plus, the real damage was two bites, not from claws.

Result: a full fang pusy pussy puncture.   Groan.  Anyway it's almost better now. Thank you antibiotics.

She just panicked when I grabbed her. Won't happen again.

May I offer a bit of advice. Next time, take a deep breath and hiss as loud as you can. Not with your vocal chords, but by expelling air through the gaps in your teeth. I have never known this to fail to break up a cat fight.

In the cat world a hiss is, obviously, a warning. Somewhere in that furry little brain is a circuit hardwired to say the opposition is as big as its hiss, and if you hear a hiss that is too big it is time to skedaddle. It stands to reason that an adult male human can deliver a hiss that says "Tiger! Bloody dirty great tiger!". Cue cats scattering. Just don't be in the way when it happens, those rear claws can do mucho damage as they are used to get purchase in the escape attempt.

They don't seem to take any offence at it. I've delivered some serious hissings and two minutes later had the hissee rubbing around my ankles.

Poor cat. That's why I do not allow cats in the lab/workshop. It's already a dangerous place for those who know what they're doing. Even more so for those who don't.

I wouldn't mind him being up there, except for the fact that he previously knocked a heavy output transformer off the top shelf, managing to dent BOTH end bells (along with breaking the shaft off a rotary switch on something that was on the floor below), so now I need to do body work then strip and powder coat them again.  And you may have noticed the white fluff looking material up there.  That WAS a roll of paper towels that I put up there thinking it might be safe from claws.  Wrong!  It fell prey to him, or perhaps his sister Pixel.  She too is a great climber and has been seen up there, and I am more inclined to suspect her as the shredder as she has been caught vaporizing rolls of toilet paper in the past.

Cats like high places. Don't fight it, make him/her a bed up there.
That's what I was going to suggest as well.  Maybe even make a small wooden shelf high up in a corner, and a board covered with hemp rope (or cross sections of corrugated cardboard) as a cat ladder.

I don't know if it works for cats too, but rubbing one of your own old sweaty-stanky t-shirts or towels on your dog, and putting it inside their new bed, gets the message across immediately and without error.

When I first met my brother's Norwegian forest cat, Elvis, who normally didn't like new people much, giving the slow blink and drawing a large circle in my lap with my finger was enough to get him to sit in my lap for a bit.

Well, they do have a spot on the top of the new bookcase; I've put padded Amazon mailing envelopes up there for them, too.

They use it occasionally, but apparently, like kids, where you're NOT supposed to be is far more appealing than where you're allowed to go.

:-+ I did indeed, thus my tongue-in-cheek response showing how horribly mistreated he is on a daily basis.  He is indeed quite the character, and the lot of them provide considerable entertainment (along with occasional frustration).  And siblings are even better at wreaking havoc - they seem to have a telepathic bond that enables them to collude more efficiently!  Gilmore is one of the three siblings I have; his sisters Beaker and Pixel (L-R) are the two gazing expectantly at the top of the bookcase from the top platform of cat tree in the first bookcase photo in the post above.

Yeah, sure! Samson is a very affectionate but "protocolar" cat. He likes to show that he loves us but he awaits for our permission for almost everything. Monica is the opposite. She's da boss. She treat us most of the time as her staff. And when she sees that she can't get us to do what she wants, she tries to get it herself. So when we see her demonstrating affection like in the pic below, it's worth the photo.

Blueskull - congrats on 'hiring' your new lab assistant (supervisor??) - looks like a fine helper.

But what is this 'posture' thing you speak of?  I don't think cats 'do' posture.  I swear Pixel has Shore 20A rubber bits where her spine should be.  Please note that as I readied the phone to take her picture, she woke up and UNTWISTED a bit.  When I first saw her, her hind feet were more in line with her head.

This is from the Github page for "Cat-generator (https://github.com/aleju/cat-generator)".

Linked is Model G32up-c, the current default.

It's a deep learning/computer vision project that runs under Torch.

(Unfortunately, according to the readme, it requires Cuda- which I don't have)

There's no denying that pretty girls and technology (e.g. video games), combined, tend to make good TV. Adding a cat spices things up a bit more, except when the cat is itself a problem i.e. as sometimes seen on Scanlime.

To try to get back on topic, how about another cat? Sadly, I could not find a The Signal Path video specifically about the cat.

In her younger years, she loved to roam on powered workbenches.
Once she managed to short a high power DC bus, and her leap almost reached low earth orbit.

Nowadays, she is happy to observe me from a safe distance.

I was initially confused since I thought of Nvidia GPU architecture codenames and don't recall Delphi being one of them. And also that Pascal is an older generation with Turing being the latest.

Fun website where guy trained an AI to understand the relationship between 2000 images of cats and their line art equivalents.
You can draw a cat diagram and have the AI turn it into a real cat photo, or at-least try too :-DD

https://affinelayer.com/pixsrv/ (https://affinelayer.com/pixsrv/)

Note: On some computers the website doesn't work. I think it uses some CPU extensions not found in older processors, or maybe it uses CUDA for all the AI processing.

Yesterday I've visited the HAM Radio in Friedrichshafen / Germany.
During the lunch break there were some people from Ukraine and they
carried a cat with them in a box. The box is weared in front of a person.
Couldn't resist and asked If I could take a picture of their cat.
Because of my very limited knowledge of the Ukrainian language
I think the cat's name is "Haako".

My first cat was named Delphi (it was a foster cat, now it's gone to its forever home), so my next will be Pascal ;).
I was initially confused since I thought of Nvidia GPU architecture codenames and don't recall Delphi being one of them. And also that Pascal is an older generation with Turing being the latest.
:oI hope you never try to eat them.
It is *not* common for the Chinese to eat dogs and cats.

It was not uncommon, but with time that practice appears mostly gone.  Indeed, it's common to see east Asians with cats as pets and some of the most cat loving people around.  There's a Chinese school that has a cat and the cat is worshiped by the students and faculty.  Times change!

Some minority ethnicities in China eat dogs, such as Korean Chinese.

I ate dogs, but I don't like to eat dogs. It's just a family gathering premium food in my maternal family before my Korean grandpa passed away.

And FFS, we Korean Chinese don't eat pet dogs.

I loved how in Keith Rucker's recent video about a planer restoration,
here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JJ_stSqz0Y)
you can see both a shop cat and a shop dog (8:50-11:00).  The dog is exploring nearby,
with obvious happy tail swish, and the cat is doing that cat thing, where
it does its thing nearby, but not too nearby to make it obvious it enjoys
the presence of the human; except for some close inspection that
is occasionally warranted...

Bathing them is no fun either.  I made the mistake a couple of years ago trying to help the stepdaughter bathe one of her cats.  Cat was like an 8 legged octopus with claws.  After she twisted free, being slippery from the shampoo, she literally climbed up me, across the low ceiling in the kitchen and disappeared.  I had bloody claw tracks up my chest.

Ouch!  When I was young, we had a spitz mutt (mostly Finnish Spitz), who refused bathing, unless the person went first; wouldn't be fooled, either.

I was amazed to see how calm Maru, the box cat, is when bathed:

I realized the hard way that a pre-bath claw trimming was extremely important back in 2015 after giving Gilmore (aka Lab Cat), the first of my three new kittens, a bath because the lot of them had gazillions of fleas.  Kittens REALLY have razor sharp needle-like claws, and he did a fine job of shredding my forearms.

His two sisters and my other two cats then received mani/pedis before THEIR baths, and things went much more smoothly.

From what I have been told cats can get used to bathing if you start when they are a kitten. Otherwise it will be claw-hell. At some point we had to wash our cats and that wasn't fun (but it was necessary due to fleas).
Title: Re: Post a picture of a cat!

Can confirm some cats get used with bathing.  I've witnessed at a beach (at the seaside/2 Mai/Black Sea) a cat that was following its master into the sea, and swim around without even being called to get into the water.

It was the craziest cat I've ever seen, almost like a dog.  Still with tons of cat personality, but able to take a few commands from its master.  Also, it was a very territorial cat, no one could've come close to the owner's tent without being attacked by that cat, not even dogs.

Is there a reason why you cat-owners don't have a low box/tray on/near your bench, on a nice vantage point, somehow unused for some odd reason, maybe with a nice soft towel on the bottom?  Not meant for the cat, obviously; but because a cat-owners workbench just should happen to have one..  ;)

Most cats will kindly ignore the boxes you set up for them and will use any other object they see fit, and they can be very smart about detecting the spots that you want them to use or not. ;D
Oh and of course they like heat, so I'm guessing the CRT monitor makes a maybe not that comfy, but warm spot to sleep on (and it gets to annoy the owner a tiny bit, which is always a bonus.)

You mean reverse psychology does not work on cats?

I've found that a curious cat who doesn't want to seem too human-friendly, is easy to distract by using a rope/belt/string tied into a small circle, and then placing it in your own lap.  Thus far, the ownership of the thus ringed area seems more important than being aloof.  Anyone else tried that?

Just found this cat on YouTube. And I started watching this cat for hours :palm:.
Nice kitty kitty - amazing.  :phew:

Looks cute but not a big proponent of providing a cute undomesticated animal and turning them into pets. Aggression, instinctive reaction or even a playful 'swat' and that 'cute' cat would loose it's cuteness.

Looks cute but not a big proponent of providing a cute insensibly wild animal and turning them into pets. Aggression, instinctive reaction or even a playful 'swat' and that 'cute' cat would loose it's cuteness.

If you would look at the story of the puma in their other videos you'd know it has health issues and can't be returned to the wild or it would perish, so being cared for by that couple is best for it.

Almost ;)
He sat there for 10 minutes....

I think I saw it mentioned somewhere (yeah, I was up all night watching him too) that due to his condition he's between 1/3 and 1/2 the normal size for the breed, and early on had some joint issues to contend with.   He certainly appears to be very gentle and docile, and for sure has found a loving home.  There are other videos of him cuddled up to Sasha as he reads (or, more precisely, tries to read - Messi keeps trying to lie across him and head butting him in the face looking for attention).  I'd love a chance to interact with him and hear his purr firsthand - he's a beautiful animal!  I wouldn't want him climbing onto my bench or equipment shelves, though...

-Pat

Edit to add - or have him offer comfort while stuck in bed with a bad cold (as I presently am) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FXP43UHpLk0

There was a Puma living with someone in the US before the times of public internet, but it made an appearance in a very good book on feline behaviour. Can't recall the title, but I will try to get some info.
I recall they had regular cats too and at least one child.

One scene described was where a slightly bored but lazy Puma kept himself occupied by catching the same tiny fly all over and again. It caught it by folding it's paw, then let it fly again.

I buckled a belt and left it on my bed earlier; Piglet has now taken up residence in it and has been curled up snoozing for several hours that I know of so far tonight.

This is Luna

[attach=1]

She adopted us a year or so ago and really likes cuddling,  sardines and lasers (i can relate to this one also),  not necessarily in this order.

Also,  in the picture,  she wasn't posing,  she was sleeping like that. Also she's a real nice accessory on my desk, as she matches with my keyboard and display

Here's a feral cat I've been feeding. He comes by every evening. I made a box for him to sleep in. Sometimes he does and sometimes he doesn't.

Takes a lot of work to get 'em back, doesn't it?

I had a full black one I named Matrix. After weeks and weeks I got it to the stage of coming into the house to eat. So long as the door was open. If I tried to shut the door it would bolt. One night, because it was cold, I shut the door by pulling on a bit of string I had set up. The cat went bananas until I let it out. It didn't talk to me for a fortnight.

I can sit next to him now but it took about 2 months. He still hisses at me when I come out because he doesn't know better, but I can walk around behind him and he will keep eating with no worries. We'll see how it goes. He has never lived inside and probably wouldn't want to. Seems OK with his life as it is outside.

I found I have a cat, a little feral that sort of came in the front door and got stuck. No pictures, as it is a little bit camera and human shy, but it does eat nicely, and uses a litter tray, and hides pretty much the rest of the time, but is easy to find, just listen for the hiss. Hoping to win it over to at least tolerate humans.

Problem is I will some time or the other have to do a flea treatment on the cat, and will also have to drive to the vet for the usual shots. Definitely will not like that.

When you have this new puss under some control and can handle it ask your vet to drop in when passing nearby and have the shots administered at your place. Much less stressful for the puss.

Wonderful to see an older cat given a home.

Our prior cat was a abused rescue, became such a loving cat but it took a lot of time (years). Our current cat is a abandoned rescue around 3Yrs (we think). We've had her a year but she's very shy and does like to be by herself most of the time.

I can relate - I have a former feral that I took in when she was about two (vet's estimate).  She'd been a city street cat in New Haven, CT, and must have been beaten or something because she was incredibly timid and cringy when she first came.  Over four years later (she joined the gang in early November of 2015), she's FINALLY coming out of her shell and becoming more at ease and less jumpy.  It's been a long road, but worth the trip.

Yeah  ^-^  I went into the shelter looking to adopt one of the cats that had been there the longest and/or oldest.  Generally, one of the cats that usually gets passed over.   Then my girlfriend and I also fell in love with Merlin... so we had to take both home :D
