You typically can't do that with dogs.
Well, you can, if they have their own house and a yard to run in, and stuff to play with.  And some places (like SparkFun) nowadays let one bring their dogs to the workplace.

Cats, previously mentioned in the cat/dog person thread

White one is Squeaker, grey/white is Elwood, who once had a brother (not genetic) named Jake who quite a long time ago crossed the bridge.

They are once again snuggling together. I previously posted that Squeaker had passed, well, last night I came home to find Elwood has passed away peacefully in his sleep. Knew something was up, the dogs were arrayed outside the room where his bed is. usually they all hang out together when no one is home.

rrinker, I am very sorry to hear of your loss.  They always go far too soon.  My deepest condolences.

Thank you. He was technically my GF's cat, but he became my buddy about 10 years ago when she first moved here but still had to go back for weeks at a time to transition her work to the local office, so it was just me and the kitties.

I have had cats all my life and know the heart ache of losing them, even doing voluntary work for the cats protection (UK cat charity) doesn't making it any easier when you go to the vets you know the outcome before you go through the door from 2-3 week old kittens to big 20+ year old moggies

You have to do right by the cat and not prolong any suffering

rrinker - I'm so very sorry.

I was adopted by 3 cats when I got married 15 years ago. Since then, I've shared my life with and buried eight. Only one passed in his sleep (my avatar). They are the most extraordinary creatures and how fortunate we are that they chose us to be their pets.

Quite right.  Though not a cat person but a dog person, I love my 2 like they are my children.  I lost my first dog as a teenager when my 5 year old Bull Mastiff passed away and I watched her go.  I have put down several dogs over the years so the suffering wasn't prolonged and each one was a heartbreak.  I, too, am very sorry for your loss.  I grieve with you.

Condolences, cat or dog, are family; a great loss, they give so much in so little time.

This is Fussel, which means "Fluff" in German. He first showed up a couple of weeks ago and decided, us to be the best can openers in the area and somehow, even managed to become friends with our grumpy old cat that normally scares away every cat. We estimate his age to be ~11-12 month.

EDIT:

Mentioning the "grumpy old cat".... here's a picture of him. Name is Chili, age 13 years.  :-)

Cats are fair game!  >:D One of the cats I had around as a teenager also moved in with us on his own prerogative. Cats don't leave their home unless they have a really good reason. Over a decade later we found out he was really scared of young children.

From a local news website... This is something you don't see every day! Somewhere in Turkey they think cats benefit from knowing how to swim.

Yes  we went to our vet for a health check and vaccination. No chip no tattoo.

Most cats just don't like water but they all can swim.

I have had three cats that liked water, two that could swim.
There is a high Coolness Factor associated with having swimming cats.
