Post a picture of some outdoor cooking!
« on: April 20, 2019, 08:43:44 pm »
Sorry for the OT post, I've made up for it by using an ELECTRIC smoker (in other words I'm too cheap to use a real one).

Post some pictures (descriptions totally welcome) of food you've cooked outside in a grill, smoker, fire pit, high velocity flamethrower, etc. Did a quick look to see if anyone else made a post like this, and didn't see anything, so let's get this one started!

I got some delicious smoked salmon currently in my smoker today. This salmon was brush coated with a glaze consisting of soy sauce, maple syrup, pepper, and garlic powder. It's to be smoked over cherry chips (first time I've ever used them) and I will come in with an update when they are done.

About a week ago I made some pork ribs and a half rump roast, both dry rubbed with a load of spices (salt, pepper, garlic powder, etc., paprika on the rump roast), smoked over a mix of apple and mesquite chips. I used a bottle of maple bacon barbecue sauce my dad gave me as a gift when he visited good ol' snow mexico for a concert. Both were delicious.

This was a prime rib I smoked, I believe over home cut willow chips. It came out absolutely perfectly, incredibly moist, and the outside was continuously basted in rapeseed oil.

Last, but totally not least were these chicken and pork cutlets (with some smoked salt over there in the corner). I had coated the chicken at least (presumably the pork too, I forget) in a yellow (similar to madras) curry powder, with some other misc spices, and the smoked jalapeno (chipotle) variant of Tabasco. Done over willow chips just like the other, which has the effect of making meat taste a bit like chocolate covered coffee beans.
I forget who I am sometimes, but then I remember that it's probably not worth remembering.

Fresh fish delivered by air:

As for my own experiences with outdoor cooking, one I find particularly memorable was an outdoor science experiment in middle school that involved cooking hot dogs with sunlight focused by a Fresnel lens.

That computer case grill looks awesome. I guess all you really need is a metal box (and presumably the paint removed).

As for the eagle dropping off the fish, that's USPS for you.

My fish is done, and it was delicious (my mother who went to culinary school said it was restaurant quality :3)

I initially misread this as “As for the eagle dropping on the fish...”  :-DD (Ain’t nobody got time for eagle droppings on their food!)

can anyone recommend a good dehydrator thats stainless steel and cheap for jerky production? I don't know if there is a big benefit between the chinese imports and a expensive one.

We made jerky in a plastic dehydrator when I was a kid. Worked fine, but I suppose not as durable.

I’d sooner suggest using the oven, especially if you have one with convection. Just crack open the door and put it on a really, really low temperature (like you’d use in the dehydrator).

That reminds me of a time when I was in the scouts - we had to cook small sausages using a peanut. The results were a bit mixed but some people managed it OK.

This is as close as I am to outdoor cooking.  The first sight of the BBQ being visible through the snow made me feel like an archeologist coming across an ancient artifact.

It's even vaguely on topic - thermoelectric lamp.

I just grabbed a plastic dehydrator from the estate sale Mrs GreyWoolfe and I are doing.  I've done the oven in a past life but not with 2 curious dogs and 2 even curiouser cats, though I wouldn't mind dehydrating the cats.  I'ms sure they will taste just like chicken. >:D

It may have gone un-noticed how the eggs are cooked this way !!!  :)
You cut a hole in the bread with a small cup or what ever. Throw the bread onto the
hotplate, and then break the egg into the middle !!!   You FINALLY flip it once, when
about 45-secs to go, so the egg is perfectly contained within the Toast !! (no 'rings')  ;D
Diagonal of 1x1 square = Root-2. Ok.
Diagonal of 1x1x1 cube = Root-3 !!!  Beautiful !!

Being an 'Aussie' though, it used to piss me off in the 1980's when they used our
'Paul Hogan' in American ads, to try and increase Tourism here.... (Cont. below...)

For a start, 'we' never did that in the 80's !!!... it was all 'bangers' (sausages) etc.
Most importantly... they made Paul Hogan talk about "Shrimps"...  Aarrgghh !!!   :)
Those objects of global desire are "Prawns"!!!   8)
'Shrimps' are those little 1" long things that are not that much bigger than 'Krill'
that Whales eat!!!!  A 'man' here would need 500 'shrimps' for a basic feed !!   8)
