Yes - would be rather tricky making a shadowmask tube this small...

Not much point as the viewfinder usually contains all the drive electronics and just needs power and a comp. video signal. Unfortunately it doesn't look as cute once the scan coils are on.

hehe, i have 9 of those in series which i charge up and short out with a 600A load when i've had a bad day  always makes me happy.
I also use 6 in series if i need to jump start a car.

Hi John, I suspect that big bugger was built to supply traction motors such as those used in electric locomotives or shipping, the volts and amps ratings looks about right.

Here's a massive valve from an old high power transmitter.  I believe it was used at an airport.

I used to have one of those that I pulled from a defunct philips cassette player.  I ended using it in a QRP SWR meter I used to tweak antennas when I used to backpack radios out into the boonies.  I remember it using a 1mA movement.

Not a component but I have always been impressed with my old Sony WM-101 walkman cassette player.

With the flat 'gum-stick' battery pack it is exactly the same size as a plastic cassette case.

I often wondered what the guy sitting at a drawing board designing the plastic cassette case would have though if someone told him they were going to fit a complete auto-reversing player and battery in the space he left behind.
