Schematics needed, Buyers remorse, rebrannded EEVBLOG meter on CL
« on: September 16, 2016, 12:15:33 pm »
I downloaded the manual for Dave's BM235 (like the personal touch BTW) and was trying to locate a schematic for it.  This came up in the search:

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/tls/5736166370.html

Anyone know if the schematics are available on-line?  I've had no luck finding them.

If I remember correctly, I don't think that even Dave has the schematic at this point.

Correct.
If I want it I'll have to reverse engineer it.

No problem.  Was just curious about the photo on page 27 of the manual and what appears to be two high speed clamps made up from Q4/5 and Q6/7.  These are not populated in the photo but it also looks like they may not be connected to anything.

I miss the days of high end equipment with full schematics and service manuals, like Fluke, Tektronix, HP, etc.

Why did this change? Because it became easy and cheap to duplicate things in China, or what? Even the big boys don't give you anything useful anymore.

This I why I buy so much old gear. I can actually fix it.

Because they don't want you to fix it! They want to scam you into spending more money on a new one!

No. The chinese can strip down and reverse engineer a product within microseconds, like a horde of worker ants set a task - it will be done.

It's purely because the western companies are run by MBA's and Accountants vs Engineers. The same cancer is why the likes of China are taking over these industries. In particular note how China actually do release this sacred information, albeit by unorthodox means - but intentional - to their own schools of engineers in mandarin and for free.
