So lately I have been looking at power supplies, and wondering if I can wait for Dave to finalize his design. I was wondering some of your suggestions. I figure the budget is $200 with a little wiggle-room if necessary. I am unsure of the names to avoid and which ones are preferred. I generally do digital systems but I am trying to dabble in analog circuits. Just a general bench-top psu. Dual channel is beneficial.
Past couple of days I took notice to Mastech bench top power supplies, specifically their triple output dc linear power supplies (30V, 3A versions) either HY3005D-3 or HY3005F-3. All looks okay except the LCD reading accuracy. Actually that brings a bit of a concern, but I am not sure what is tolerable. I did notice these seems to be rather common though. Not sure why they aren't brought up here in the forums.

Just looking around.. getting an idea whats out there. Eventually I will need to upgrade to a better DMM rather than the one I made in highschool (kit) and a radioshack one.

Very interesting PSU Teknotronix. The same spec'd one but without the usb feature is only $68. USB or not to USB. I don't know how rebranding works exactly... I know some changes could occur. I hope it is not like it's twin from Quakko which puts out 25 volts on start-up for nearly a second without current limiting while it 'boots'. Yikes! I know, different brand, but exactly the same looks.
Also I was wondering how long did it take to get your first one. Noticed in the other thread you received your first. I was figuring three weeks going to the US. Besides that if it performs it looks like an amazing alternative. More function, more power, less price.

I just did a test like this video and mine did not have the spike. In fact it was clean as a whistle. No overshoot on the output button either.
My one took about a week to arrive. At first I was apprehensive about buying from preciseguage.com but after a few emails with David the owner it turned out good. He send's them out fast. I have another one on the way. Delivered to Australia, each one came to US$143.50 which is a great price for a programmable DC supply, I think.

UPDATE:
I purchased a second unit and was sent one branded as Yori instead of Vantek (which should technically be the same) and the spike issue is present. See my post over here:

IMO, no matter who you purchase from, make sure you specify Vantek as these seem like a better build overall.
