Burnt optical media isn't designed for long term storage (CD's, DVD's and Blurays) aren't designed for long term storage. Even the high quality discs don't last very long. In my experience, within about 10 years, even if you store them in an air-conditioned environment, disc rot starts to set in. We have archives at work going back to about 2006-2008 which are completely unreadable.

You can get "archival quality" discs, but be prepared to pay through the nose for them.

I have some CD-Rs from nearly 20 years ago that are still fine although I've had some others fail.

For storing electronics remove the batteries and store them in a cool dry location. For data the most foolproof solution is to have multiple copies and copy the data to new media every 5-10 years, storing it in a cool, dry and dark location.

Except for CD and DVD discs which were of questionable quality when purchased, I have had no bit rot problems going on 20 years.

If you are serious about long term storage, then inorganic M-DISC media is available now which should have a very long archival life:

M-Disc went under 4 years ago.  However, I see Verbatim and LG are still selling the M-Disc products.  Did Verbatim and LG took over the join?  I do want to buy some M-Disc to back up my files if the product is still supported.
