PCIe Gen5 over external cables ??
« on: April 16, 2024, 03:17:34 pm »
I'm designing a system that requires two systems to be connected by an external PCIe Gen5 cable, with eight lanes (x8).

Anyone have any ideas on what to use?

"MCIO" aka "Mini Cool Edge" aka "SFF-TA-1016" can handle Gen5, but is for internal cabling only.

Look on the left side they have a few types.

I assume internal only because its unshielded and not that robust?

How long?

Have you considered Thunderbolt? It's basically external PCIe.
