Pulsing (and now dead) “2D” led lamp
« on: June 02, 2022, 09:45:49 pm »
Hi folks.

I have an led lamp (240vac, UK) Which has been pulsing (flashing) about two or 3 Hz, for about six months now. After a while it  settle down and stays on… This is the kind of lamp…

Would it be likely that this is a bulging and/or dried out electrolytic  cap? It’s pretty hard to access the Lamp, so I don’t want to go and take it out Until I’m prepared for what it could be.

Thank you ever so much

The 10uF, 400V electrolytic on the 240 vAC mains input to the driver PCB has ESR: 0.14K, Vloss:9.9%

I know little about ESR, but that looks way too high?

Hard to know without seeing what else is in it.

Maybe run your meter over each LED to make sure none have gone open circuit. Sometimes you can see the dead one(s) by a tiny black mark.

I've seen lamp failures where it was the driver pulsing, but also ones where one LED in the chain went open. They then arc and complete the chain for a bit, drop out again, etc.
