Purchasing unusual automotive connectors
« on: February 10, 2025, 07:51:52 am »
For reverse engineering some automotive stuff on the bench I need connectors marked "KSE K20F00711", "SUMITOMO 6099-0400" and "SUMITOMO 6098-6203" and I'm unable to find them anywhere (aliexpress, mouser, farnell, digikey, tme). SUMITOMO ones are present on octopart with min quantity 1k, which is a little bit too much for a bench project 😉

Attaching the connector drawings, thanks for any ideas where I can find them in low quantities!

I really like mikeselectricstuff suggestions!  :) This could be very useful for me too.

I can only add an american business: Ballenger Motorsports
https://www.bmotorsports.com

Maybe you can also look for junkyard options to obtain the connectors. Maybe then you only need terminals and seals from these businesses.

urban, may I know what car you're working on?
goto considered awesome!

Have you considered just going to a scrapyard to cut the harness off whatever these parts came from?

Thanks for replies! 😉

I've now tried all the sites, none have "KSE K20F00711", that's the one I'm most willing to get as it's power which I need all the time. Happy to hear any other places which may be have not-so-common connectors!

I've asked junkyard which I've got the part from about the connectors, they have already trashed them and weren't able to find them. It's quite new car, so not that much of them are totaled around here, so not much places where I can look for the parts :(

It's 2024+ tesla model 3 highland "computer", which contains three computers - one for MCU (infotainment) and two autopilot units, starting playing with the MCU right now 😉

As for my experiences in the Netherlands junkyard services are limited. And usually these aren't the most nuanced and careful guys. When you are certain that "KSE K20F00711" is in that tesla model 3 car in think the junkyard is still the place to go. You might aim for a freshly crashed vehicle where the crash happened in an area not where your treasure might be. Just ask the junkyard if you will be allowed to cut off a connector and generally where that connector is. If so, then just go there with the right tools you might need.

2024 is very recent, they might be more picky about that. But maybe a Tesla dealer can confirm you the same connector has been used on more vehicles. Which expands your options.
goto considered awesome!

If you have a mechanic friend they can probably find the tesla's internal partnumber and order it directly from them as a replacement part.
We do that for some BMW connector variants which still can't be found in the open market

Toyota use Sumitomo connectors (and brake caliper and clutch parts). I am a race car engineer and do a lot with Toyotas so have the factory manual for Toyota wiring connectors. There are a LOT of them but you might strike lucky visually ID'ing them, there is some logic to how they're laid out, fortunately ;)

I have put it on my server, fill your boots and good luck!! There'll be a more up to date one, but I don't have that.

It looks like you can order some of the connector housings alone: https://epc.tesla.com/en-US/catalogs/5afabdea-dbc5-4a5d-8cc4-ea96d1bcd5cf/categories/ef492978-f425-4453-8597-766078587a10/subcategories/27f82b30-98fc-4146-98ac-e17e97372800/systemGroups/314a88ce-22a8-47dc-98f5-7f1655ddbd6c

I thought they'd only sell you the harness, but seems its a new thing they are trying (CA Only Harness Repair Pilot Program), as its a pain in the ass to replace the entire harness when just a fire wires are broken.

If OP owns the car they *might* sell it to him, or go through the mechanic as you say.

thanks for the ideas! I've hoped at first it's easier to find those parts, like any other connector at moser/farnell/digikey/tme and I'm just blind or cannot find the right PN, but feels like it's not that easy in automotive.

@thm_w good spot that the connectors are the same on older model! will try to find those on junkyard!

I went through the epc catalog at tesla, but haven't found connectors, but was looking into european catalog. if I wouldn't find it in junkyard I'll try poking local tesla repair shop if they can order it here in europe
