Q. When is a Harbor Freight meter worth $25?
« on: January 14, 2016, 08:16:45 pm »
A. When your local (Boston area) electronics dealer offers a dead-or-alive trade-in discount toward the purchase of a new multimeter.

Their prices run high, though, so that $25 discount might be more like $10 or $5 or $0 when you take online competition into consideration.

I always treat all Harbor Freight tools as a one use time. Use em once, throw em away. There has been several times I have needed a tool to complete a job, and either i couldn't afford a REAL tool at the time, or Harbor Freight was closer.

Their tools are just crap. Even their Bunjee Cords and ZipTies are junk.

You haven't bought the right HF tools. I don't want to cover what has been commented on many times but some stuff like their tool cabinets are very well reviewed. Their Eartquake air tools are usually very good. Their better grade impact sockets are fine. There are whole threads devoted to the good and bad at HF. Their 5hp air compressor is made by IMC and a good unit for the home garage. Yes, there is plenty of garbage, too. The QC is terrible so it is often a matter of getting a good one. My second attempt at kitchen scale has worked for years. It matches the weights from the deli to a couple of decimal places.

My HF compressor and all but 1 of my nail guns are over 12 years old and they work when I need them to.  My only issue with my compressor was my lack of knowledge and buying one too small for everything I would like to do.  When it gives up the ghost, I will see what I can do at that point.  I am on my 3rd tire inflator with gauge but I do use the crap out of it and one of them I broke.
