Title: Question to all the tape afficionados. Onkyo TA2760 or Nakamichi DR-3?
Post by: OE2WHP on September 09, 2016, 09:46:28 pm
Hi,

I want to buy a tape deck to transfer my old mix tapes to mp3. After hours of digging the web I found three decks which I find interesting.

1. Nakamichi DR-3
2. Onkyo TA-2760
3. Denon DRM-740

I'm a little biased towards the Nak but the others are also quite decent and a bit cheaper as well.

Which one would you take (also considering the availlability of spare parts)?

Thanks for your comments!

The Onkyo has the most sophisticated transport and magnetics (3 motor, dual capstan, 3 heads). In theory this can mean less flutter as the transport speed is more controlled, although the actual performance depends on implementation.
Nakamichi decks are known for very high performance, but they are optimized for playing recordings made on other Nakamichi decks. For recordings made elsewhere the advantage is not that great.
