You gotta love how motivated he was as a kid. It seems that he's still interested in lots of higher level things but I wonder if he's done anything with his drive? Living with dad and conducting experiments that have a potential to add something to science is completely acceptable but if he's doing nothing more creative than reenacting proven experiments then it may be time to get a job, no?

I almost don't want to hit the post button because I'm not trying to diminish his accomplishment (and my get a job comment may seem to do exactly that), really impressive for a kid his age.

So what makes him a Red Neck? Or is it just because he's American?

The effects of the radiation poisoning he inflicted on himself, look at some of the photos of him.

Well from the video looks like he got better since there was a few years difference in time.

Sionym,

Thanks for sharing.

A quick word of advice. Redneck is pretty offensive term and I don't even think the kid falls anywhere near to a true redneck. Redneck essentially refers to people who traditionally are out in the sun so much that they get red necks...Nowadays, it's not a very nice term at all.  It refers to Southerners who might drink a lot, might break the law, aren't educated, and might not have very good hygiene.

A hillybilly is similar, however it's usually not meant in a derogatory way. It usually refers to people who love the outdoors being in nature.

However, this boy doesn't fall into either category though he paid the price for his foolishness.

You can say...American Boy instead or just Boy Scout.

There's a book about him and his projects.  http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?sts=t&tn=radioactive+boy+scout

A copy someone gave me is sitting on my 'to read' shelf. For when I get some time - ha ha ha.
No photos in it unfortunately.

Really?
Do we gotta go down THAT road?

If that's the case, then I find the term "Nuclear Reactor" offensive.  Since what he built, or tried to build, was not a "Nuclear Reactor" in the familiar sense, but rather a "Breeder Reactor".

But, since we're going down that road, I find the term "Breeder" offensive as well.
I've got 1.99 kids (.99 = is due any day to become 1.00).  Does that make me a "Breeder"?  I've never been thought of as a "Breeder".
Maybe more a person who has indulged in the act of "Procreation".

But now we've got the word "Creation" which further leads to the term "Creationism".
And then you open up a whole can of worms...

And I don't like worms either...
I didn't take it apart.
I turned it on.

The only stupid question is, well, most of them...

Doesn't seem to be, given the number of reality TV shows with Redneck in the title these days. Even you Yanks seem to like "taking the piss" here ;D

No. Calling someone who isn't a redneck a redneck is a very bad thing to do. If you are actually redneck, you probably don't care. But just keep it in mind. I have many relatives in the South and friends there. If you're not a true redneck you sure as hell better not call him one.

I can sometimes be found spending a sunny Saturday under an older vehicle in my driveway, while drinking beer and listening to country music.  Does this make me a redneck, a hillbilly, or just "thrifty"?  'Cause I don't mind any of those terms, personally.  Yes, I do have an EE degree, so at least I'm an educated redneck!

Dave.
I saw you "procreated" awhile back too.  (Incidentally, when I watched that particular video the first time, I had absolutely NO idea that was coming up.)
Version 1.0 of my procreation is coming up on it's 4th anniversary.
Version 2.0 is still at the manufacturing plant.  Completion date is less than 2 weeks away.
I didn't take it apart.
I turned it on.
