Relay-Based Floating Point Square Root Calculator

(1/1)

AlbertL:
Amazing project with a telephone dial for input, Nixie tubes for output and a motor-driven two-phase "clock"!

rstofer:
Thanks for posting this, it's great!

TimFox:
I remember using an electro-mechanical calculator (Friden?) sometime before 1970 that could extract square roots:  it was fun to watch, as the carriage shifted back and forth and the numbers moved behind their windows.

EPAIII:
Great 1950s technology. Hollywood would love to have it.

..... und watchen der blinken lights!

AlbertL:
For those who want to experiment with relay computing but don't want to spend the time and money to actually assemble a project, I'm thinking a programmable logic controller would be an alternative that could faithfully simulate physical relays.  There are some very capable but inexpensive PLCs on the market, like the Click line from Automation Direct
