Repair service

(1/1)

Majorbob:
Hi all, not sure on the right place for this so I've chosen here.

I'm based in the UK and am seriously considering starting an electronics repair business, nothing too serious, just an extra revenue stream on the side of my current job and I have a few questions:

1.  What sort of insurance should I get?  I've seen lots about product liability, especially as items are going back to peoples homes.  I've also seen a few about being insured to enter peoples homes for repairs on larger appliances (not sure I'll be doing this sort of work yet)
2.  Do I need to do any kind of extra safety testing (such as a PAT test) to confirm product safety before handing the item back.  I've seen a couple of places doing this but they were big repair companies that also provided services to businesses.
3.  Do I need to provide any kind of guarantee or warranty on repairs undertaken?  And how do I do this? The information I can find is very vague and aimed more at the consumer.
4.  I'm yet to check if I'll need to be GDPR compliant but does anyone have advice on this?

I'm planning to run the business from my home and I've found loads of information on what to do on that side of things.
