First off, this isn’t even EE related, and I have no idea if anyone even cares or if this is against the rules in any way, but I certainly mean no harm in it…
So I don’t know if I’m the only person who thinks that a big ol’ yellow E means absolutely nothing about EAGLE and is just plain ugly or what… but I hate it. I mean no offense to the designers at AutoDesk, but it’s an understatement to say it’s not my cup of tea. So… I made a replacement.
It’s not perfect, and it really looks most at home on a Mac, but without trying to toot my own horn it’s way better than a big ol’ E.

To use it on a Mac, copy the image to your clipboard, find EAGLE in Finder and perform a “Get Info” on it (right/control click, “Get Info…”), click the small EAGLE icon in the top left corner of the Get Info box, and “paste” the icon over it.
This doesn’t overwrite the actual icon, but rather adds metadata telling the system to use the pasted icon instead. If you want to revert back to the original icon, simply “Get Info” on the app again, click the icon, and press DELETE. Similarly, when the next version of EAGLE is inevitably released you can “Get Info” on the old version, click the icon, copy to clipboard, and paste it into the Get Info window for the new version.
As for Windows users, there are a number of applications and probably online services which will convert a .png to an .ico, but I can’t think of any in particular.
As for Linux users… I don’t know how icons work on different Linux DE’s, but chances are you can get that .png in there with minimal difficulty.
Hope people like this!

I have never used Eagle, but I couldn't imagine how the icon, something that is so mundane, could be so bad that it made you go out of your way to create a new icon for it.

They went from something that was along the same lines as mine but less stylized, to a stylized capital letter E. I don’t like it, but I agree it’s pretty pointless. But I had time on my hands waiting for my PCBs to arrive and wanted to learn a bit about making vector icons. If I can, and I would like it more, why not?
Edit: and I just used a downloaded EAGLE logo and a template for a vector editor. It took a good hour or two, but most of that was learning the software and its quirks.

As a suggestion distribute the icon in .PNG form, as it's an effectively lossless image compression standard, where as JPG can be VERY lossy. Since you said it is a vector graphic, a .svg file would be even better.

Since Autodesk moved Eagle to a subscription-only model I propose the following icon.

Yes, why not! The new Autodesk Eagle icon is consistent with the other Autodesk products, a stylized capital letter. At least the new icon warns me that I am about to run Autodesk Eagle, rather than plain old Eagle.
I do wonder how well Eagle sales are going, Eagle seems to have a couple of interesting new features.

The hotlinked preview should be png. If not I’ll fix that later.

Ah, it is. It's only the attached image that is jpg. Still, SVG would be even better.

I don’t think Mac or Windows lets you apply an SVG as an icon.
