Replacing the glossy screen of my laptop with a matte screen
« on: April 04, 2011, 05:40:20 pm »
Hi guys,

I have an Acer Aspire 8935G-874G100BN laptop featuring a 18.4'' glossy display. I truly dislike reflection and wanna replace the screen with a matte one. Do you have any ideas where to get one?

On a related note, I'm curious about compatibility issues. My next laptop will probably be a next generation Acer Aspire with the same screen size. Matte probably won't be an option. I'd like to use my future matte display for my next laptop but don't know about hardware interfaces and compatibility issues. If anyone could shed some light on this that would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Laci

Machines were mice and Men were lions once upon a time, but now that it's the opposite it's twice upon a time.

I don't think he was suggesting that. I thought he meant stick the matt film on top.

Yeah, I was also assuming sticking the film on top which is what makes sense.  Changing the polarizing film is an interesting idea though, not that I think it's possible.

There are a number of such offerings on the net.

It's much easier/cheaper just to stick some film over the top of the existing display.

Like I have suggested earlier, I'm not interested in getting something easier or cheaper.  I'm interested about quality and so far nobody could tell me the difference between a matte screen and a glossy screen with a matte film on top of it.

I don't know what it'll be like, give it a go and if you're not happy, it's cheap so you've not lost much.
